What a fantastic MFA Group show!! I was privileged to graduate alongside four talented artists and friends. We all made memories that will be with us forever; I am so grateful! This was part one of a two-part MFA show for me and was a perfect way to kick off the week. I showed eight Silver Gelatin prints as well as a large 48"x64" metal visual/audio installation. The large metal print featured an experimental soundtrack I recorded via modular synthesis at the same spot where I took the photo. Alongside the prints, I also showed my new book (stay tuned for a closer look soon). I appreciate everyone's amazing energy and all the kind words regarding the work. I am truly grateful that it all resonated.

Technically, the trees on this beach are supposed to be dead, mere skeletons, as evidence of their existence. But as they lay here scattered in their temporary resting place, their energy still lingers. Im so glad I stopped here…the perfect ending to an amazing MFA thesis and graduation week… and the perfect beginning.

Stop. #2 while in Asheville was the manufacturer of some of my favorite modules! Thank you, Eric and the crew at Make Noise for making me feel welcome and giving me the tour and some demos of your fantastic modules.

Stopped in Asheville, NC on my way to Rockport for a pilgrimage of sorts… 1st stop — The Moog Music factory and the Moogseum … my hope is to collect some creative and positive energy for the upcoming week and no better place than the Mecca of east coast synthesis.. Moog! Of course the mountains of Asheville are no slouches either 😉

I’ve always felt a vibration in the air when exploring the swamp. At first, I didn’t understand it, but I certainly felt it. The energy is as thick as the air, and when you sit and really listen to the plethora of sounds that bombard you, the complexity of nature unfolds. I’ve recorded the sound in all the spaces I’ve photographed in the Florida swamps. Looking at a spectrogram reading is akin to the land’s fingerprint, no less complex than the intricate textures that can be seen. When these energies merge, it’s a world of wonder. The seen and unseen coalesce with the heard and unheard to form a fleeting glimpse.

My ever developing score for my first ever live modular performance that will be part of a two-part Thesis exhibition in May. Connecting the auditory & visual worlds has been extremely rewarding. It all started with question: “What would your images sound like?” That was over a year ago and I’m still answering the question. Can you hear the swamps voice? Scoring for modular synthesis can take many forms, from formal notation , to scribbles on a notepad, it’s irrelevant as long as it shows you clues of where to go next. John Cage said it best - “The role of the composer is to prepare the elements which will permit the situation to become complex.”

396 Hz - The Frequency of Liberation from Fear and Guilt. Self-imposed limitations often result from uncertainty brought about by fear and guilt. If allowed to take root and grow, those cognitive states can paralyze us into an unrecognizable version of ourselves. It's a battle I fight every minute of every day. It's a silent battle, filled with noise projected onto us. If you listen carefully, the tiny grains that make up this cacophony are insights into our existence and potential.

174 hz is believed to promote healing and ease discomfort. I’ve always basked in discomfort, it’s where the real growth happens. I must admit, I’ve had enough discomfort for the time being, and long for a hammock on the beach while occasionally getting up to strum a guitar or make a photograph. That’s going to have to wait for a little while longer. Gearing up to attend my Penultimate retreat and this photograph represents what my brain looks like at the moment— Roots unearthed amidst a tumultuous base. Time is nonexistent in this space of discomfort and uncertainty. Just have to remember to breathe 🧘🏻‍♂️

So very grateful and humbled to have my image selected to be part of the "Water" exhibition at juried by -- This was a pivotal image of discovery that is from a current series I'm working on, and it was one of 55 images selected out of the 1,359 submitted. It was also selected as one of the "27" to be included in a limited edition hardbound fine art book of the exhibition. It's an honor to show amongst a fantastic group of artists! Much gratitude to Amanda and Kevin of A Smith Gallery and to Elizabeth Avedon.

A suspension of gravity- physics are irrelevant in the floating world of uncertainty- As above, So below—

A unity of energy.. sympathetic frequencies have the capacity to resonate, triggering a beautiful but brief ripple in time.

02/23/2023

Middle-frequencies live in the range of 300 Hz to 2,000 Hz. The noise we experience as we go about our lives exists for the most part within this core of the spectrum. A constant bombardment that goes beyond cumulative noise but strikes at our physical core. Swirling amidst the chaos exists 528hz. Piercing, enveloping and forgiving ..making all the noise irrelevant.
