We recently took a trip to Las Vegas to pick up a couple of prize items. When we go there, we were told that we had to take "all or nothing" so we took all of it. There are a lot of items that we cannot use at the depot, so we are bringing them out for purchase. We will have tables set up at the Stokoe Signal demonstration on Saturday - come by an take a look! Here are a couple of pictures - but there's a lot that I don't have pictures of.
Reminder that the Stokoe Signal demonstration is this Saturday at 2 PM! Doug Pickard will be firing up each one and Mark C McGowan will be explaining them. It will also be your last chance to buy tickets for the Stokoe plates. The drawing will be at 3:30.

The Friends of the Tehachapi Depot (FOTD) is in need of volunteers to keep the depot open Thursday through Monday, 11am to 4pm. Each shift requires a minimum of one cashier and one docent. These volunteers are asked to serve at least one five hour shift per month. Please consider becoming a member by stopping by the depot or visiting our website to complete a membership application. Let's hear from one of our volunteers to understand what they like about serving.
We decided it was time to get some young enthusiasts involved with the museum, so let's welcome our newest docent, Connor Bergquist, to the FOTD crew! He did a great job his first two days on the job!
These are photos from last year’s event.
We hope you are planning on attending!

Friday at the depot
On May 1, 1971, Amtrak assumed operations of all passenger lines formerly operated by American railroad companies. Upon taking over, all parallel routes were abandoned and due to a four hour faster trip, the SP Coast Line from the Bay Area to Los Angeles was chosen over the Tehachapi route, and the passenger waiting room at the Tehachapi Depot was turned over to the Signal Department. When the Depot reopened as a museum, the signal office, with a few modifications, became the gift shop.
These photos were taken in the signal office in 1988. At that time, the men's room was to the left in the second photo, the women's, to the right.
Meeting at Tehachapi Depot Freight Room Tuesday 6/11/2024
The speaker is Bob Alvis, an Antelope Valley Historian, who will be making a presentation regarding the Santa Fe stations that were a part of the "Muroc" line from Boron to Mojave. He will also inform the audience of the recently opened Antelope Valley Rural Museum located at the Lancaster Fairgrounds Complex.
The event is open to the public and we are asking that non FOTD members contact the depot (661-823-1100) to let us know they are going to attend. In this manner, we can ensure enough food is available. Food will be served starting at 5:30 PM, and program starts at 6 PM.

This is an open invitation for a rare opportunity to see the Tehachapi Depot Museum’s Stokoe Signal Garden IN ACTION! On Sunday, July 30, at 2:00 p.m., Mark McGowan (www.YouTube.com/) will be conducting an in-person demonstration of the Southern Pacific (SP) signals that are located on the museum’s campus. The signals were collected by the late Bill Stokoe (who had an over thirty-year career as an SP signal maintainer) and were featured on the television program Road Trip with Huell Howser in 2001. This 30 minute event is free. All aboard!
Good Day FOTD Members,
Please make plans to attend tomorrow's June FOTD General Membership meeting to be conducted in the depot Freight at 6 PM.
There will be a short business meeting and several presentations by the staff.
Of special note is a Farewell to Keith and Lana Sackewitz to thank them for their over seventeen years of FOTD support.
Dal Bunn contacted me and regrets that he will NOT be able to make his scheduled presentation due to some medical challenges and we are making plans to still have a short informative presentation by the staff. Dale expresses his regrets and says he certainly wants to make another presentation soon. He said he enjoyed the nice audience that he entertained at his last presentation.
