Let’s hear yours! 🙌 Huge thanks to Andrea Whittle and Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital for this amazing mini case report utilizing the smart-y centesis device! 💯 👏 🐎 19 year old Quarter horse gelding with a 48 hour history of increased respiratory effort. Elevated SAA and Fibrinogen, afebrile, no nasal discharge. Percutaneous tracheal wash was performed. 🐴 Pleural effusion bilaterally; 9L drained from the left side (28Fr trocar). Patient has an incomplete mediastinum which allowed effusion to be drained bilaterally. 🩺 🩸 Increased respiratory effort 16 hours later; bilateral pneumothorax of unknown cause identified via ultrasound. 18g 3” spinal needle and Smart Y used to relieve the left sided pneumothorax. After taking thoracic radiographs the right side pneumothorax was drained in the same manner. 💉 Another radiograph was taken to ensure that the lungs were inflated. 🐎✌️😎 See comments for additional images and videos!!! #smarty #practivet
