Even though September's almost over, we don't want to miss that it's International Color Blindness Awareness month! You can test your color vision at https://enchroma.com/pages/test
Your Bedford Branch Library has two pairs of Enchroma glasses to give away to people with color blindness. Take the test linked above and get your results to the library to enter the giveaway.
One in 12 men (8%) and one in 200 women (.5%) are color blind -- 13 million in the US, 30 million in Europe and 350 million worldwide. People with red-green Color Vision Deficiency (“color blindness”) only see 10% of the one million hues and shades visible to those with regular color vision. At work, school, in daily life, or when exploring nature or viewing artwork, it can be difficult for them to see and experience red and green and colors containing them.
Nearly 50% of color blind people don’t find out they’re color blind until after 7th grade, and almost 20% not until after high school, according to EnChroma. Please test your color vision, and that of your kids or students, in under two minutes at https://enchroma.com/pages/test.
#1 Online Color Blind Test | Test for Color Vision Deficiency Take the # 1 online color blind test at EnChroma to detect color vision deficiency. Assess your vision & find out if you're color blind in less than 2 minutes!

In conjunction with the IHM Motherhouse in Monroe, the Bedford Branch Library has an art installation right now called Soul Box. Each box was created by a family who lost someone to gun violence. The number displayed is also significant. The 2940 boxes displayed represent the number of people who are lost to gun violence in Michigan and Ohio in an average 5 1/2 months. It's a very powerful and moving artwork.
The library staff would like to thank all of the families who participated in our summer reading program All Together Now! Summer reading is always fun and filled with activities. We believe that summer visits to the library keeps kids reading and helps them learn the value of their library. Thanks to the Friends of the Bedford Library for sponsoring our kick off event, with book giveaways from local authors and a sweet treat, and our Shake, Rattle, & Roll finale. Also a big thanks to the Library System's corporate sponsor, Directions Federal Credit Union, for making it possible for kids to take home free books.

As the harvest season continues, please visit the table and help yourself to green beans, peppers, tomatoes, squash and more from our community garden beds, grown from plants donated and planted by Whiteford's Future Farmers of America!
