Best shower bonnet ever!
My brain burns with memories of so-called mothers treating their kids like trash to be taken out. Nobody wants to believe that human beings are capable of such horriffic behaviors as using a child as tool for respectability or as an entrance into society of "Stepford Wives" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stepford_Wives) manicured communities. The truth is that it happens because Human beings are often Human doings of greed, lust, and power mongers. Sadly, it is the human story. Through adoption, I've seen and experienced a taste of it all... While on the MeandKorea.org 2017 Mosaic Hapa Tour, I met a woman who was raised in Korea by her biological mother (a Korean National) and her GI father. Because she was mixed race- black and korean, she should not have had a good life... but she did. AND here she was giving back to those of us who had been adopted out. I asked he, "Howw did your mother do it? I heard it was impossible for the women of mixed race kids..." Obviously, some people made it happen, and her mother and father were a couple who defied the odds. My question to her was after being told that Adoptees are like the weed Dandilions... I was insultated at first, hearing us be compared to dandilions UNTIL she explained to me what a compliment it was... deadpan - "Explain," I said. She pointed to the crack in the cement, growing in the middle of downtown cement of Seoul was a dandilion She said in her beautiful broken English, punctuated with a lilting Korean accent, "Dandilions defiy the odds. A seed will find a place to land, struggle to find nutrients necessary to grow and grow." So... I think. "From Dandilions, food, medicine, and more is made... the good is there. It just doesn't get the recognition it deserves when left on its own to survive..." You see, she had love. Love though you and I may not recognize as such when we look at what the Korean society deemed as expendable, but her parents didn't. Something to think about.
