Last Friday, September 20, Midland Care Connection, Inc. and Midland Care Meals on Wheels hosted our First Annual Community Champions Gala at the beautiful Kay McFarland Japanese Garden at the Topeka Zoo.
This special event celebrated retirees from Shawnee, Jefferson, and Douglas counties, recognizing their ongoing impact in the community through volunteering. It was an inspiring reminder that retirement doesn’t mean the end of purpose—it’s the beginning of a new chapter to pursue passions and use skills gained over a lifetime to give back.
We are proud to honor those who have embraced this retirement opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others!

For 248 years, America has celebrated its independence. We come together with family and friends, host backyard barbecues, and participate in local parades. Flags wave proudly, bunting decorates windows, and fireworks light the night sky. Through generations, we continue traditions that showcase our ability to unite as Americans despite our differences. This year, take a moment to reflect on these cherished customs. Happy 4th of July!
We are excited to announce that Meals on Wheels of Eastern Kansas is now Midland Care Meals on Wheels! Serving Shawnee, Jefferson, and Douglas counties, we deliver hot, nutritious meals daily to help older adults and the homebound remain independent, manage chronic health issues, and avoid hospitalizations. While our name and logo have changed, our dedication and commitment to the people in our community remain the same!
