Even though we’ve been decorating since the beginning of September, now it officially looks like fall at our microbakery! We had our pumpkins delivered on Saturday (from our friends at the farmer’s market) and yesterday afternoon we went and got our box of Ruby McIntosh apples from Watkoski Farms! Love this time of year!! 🍎🎃🍂🍎🍁💀

MSU Extension Tree Fruit experts say there is no concern necessary in regards to predicted cool temperatures overnight Tuesday and Wednesday. Currently the low temperatures are not predicted to reach the critical threshold for bud stages in most locations. The “Fruit Ridge” region (the area along the shore of Lake Michigan between Grand Rapids and Muskegon) is at the “half inch green” stage – meaning buds are not open, and therefore are less vulnerable to cold temps. It’s baaaaaaack!! I made more jars of this Ruby McIntosh Apple Jelly than any other jam/jelly last year, and it’s been sold out for months. I only process what local fruit is in season, so once something is gone for the year, we have to wait until the next harvest. Well, it’s back, and it looks so pretty up there with all the other flavors of jam/jelly. And this picture does NOT do it justice; it nearly glows a pretty cranberry red! I only have limited jars available this weekend, but I’ll be making more next week, too.

The last of 2020 apples went to Smeltzer Orchards on Friday and the orchard grass is all mowed down for the long winter!!!
