Happy Anniversary to Maren and Perry! Their wedding was located on a working ranch in the hills along the central California coast.
I am heading back down to that area in a few weeks for my last wedding of the season!

Sneak “peak” of Kadee and Dan’s pre wedding hike up the the side of Elk Mountain near Bend, Oregon to spend some time with friends and get a few mid day portraits with the view of Mount Bachelor and the Sisters.

Happy 22nd anniversary to us! Working our last big wedding of the season together today in Tahoe!

Here is a one off .. something we really don’t do much of … a composite image!
Since we each come from backgrounds as photojournalists, our style is mostly about capturing the true to life moments that are unfolding on a wedding day.
But we also want to keep current, stay relevant and continue to grow as visual artists!
So here is an artsy rendition from Sam and Russell’s wedding at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course. I noticed that the creek had all of these tiny white flowers floating at the surface, so after doing some portraits of the couple next to it, I then shot a few close up details of the flowers in the water. So it does have some context in that the flowers were part of the scene … I still would never put rainbows or giant full moons in to a scene that they were not part of, but I thought since the flowers were there, I’d give this style a try.

I usually don't go near the lake on Labor Day weekend because it is so crowded, and when I do, it's only to shoot a wedding. But this Sunday I got lucky with the perfect place to shoot a wedding around Lake Tahoe on Labor Day weekend, the Lakeview lodge at Heavenly. Empty parking lot, no crowds, great views. Here is a quick peek for Jackie and Steve.

It was so nice to meet Megan and Chuck’s baby last weekend. From their engagement session at Palisades, to their wedding at Valhalla, and then their snowy maternity session in March, it is always so nice to keep coming back to capture all the moments as a couple becomes a family!

Happy 10 year anniversary today to Andrea and Ryan! This wedding has remained a favorite of ours, they were a fantastic couple to work with, and this historic barn hidden way up in the redwoods in the Santa Cruz mountains was a photographer’s dream to utilize for a lot of the portraits.

Family portraits at Lake Tahoe are so much more than just the standard posed images … of course we do those as part of the session, but there are a lot of “in between” moments that we also capture, especially when there are cute kids who can barely stand still and smile for the camera. Only the last image shown here was one of the more posed straight forward images of the whole group .. the rest are the moments that are our favorite “in betweens.” Also, check out the second to last image with the little girls poses/ expressions, the littlest one is covering her face, clearly she is done, lol! And this too, is a priceless image that hopefully the family will look back on and laugh.

A lot goes in to the planning for these sessions to keep it a surprise!
For this one, Jena’s mom contacted me about doing family photos while they were vacationing in Tahoe with all of their kids and their families. So we decided to use the family photo session, which really also was part of the plan, as the perfect disguise for the proposal!
did a great job with the beach blanket, pillows, and flowers for this special celebration yesterday.
