Local Food Box

Hey everyone! We know it's been a while, but we've been very busy working on something pretty amazing. HHN Local Kitchen & Market is now open for business!

In the Summer of 2021, we realized that we were going to soon outgrow our rented space in the community kitchen and would need to find a new home. We began searching for places that would fit our specific needs for the boxes and our eventual market space (large enough cold and dry storage for box operations, a commercial kitchen, ample parking and accessibility, and plenty of room to display and sell local food and goods). After a few months and scoping out a few available locations, we serendipitously came across the 4400 Broadway location through one of our connections in our network. The space had been vacant for quite some time, and management was searching for someone to take over the space to feed the many hungry people in the building.

Well, after many months of preparation, planning, and a whole lot of cleaning we're happy to announce that HHN Local Kitchen & Market is open for business on the ground floor of the beautiful 4400 building on East Broadway Boulevard!

This space will be utilized to continue the work we started with the Local Food Box and Local Loot Box as part of Humanity Hub, highlighting our community by providing better access to local food and goods including: fresh regional produce, quality food made-to-order, locally prepared meals and entrees, and handmade gifts and goods. During our soft open, we will continue to develop our menu to include vegetarian, vegan, and keto-friendly options, and will be actively working with local businesses to fill out our market space. One of the best things about locally grown produce is getting food with character. While some might think potatoes should be boring, we love the "imperfections". And why wait until it's old? This guy was birthed from the earth just a couple days ago and already contains the wisdom of the entire potato existence.

We absolutely love being able to include entrees like this in The Local Food Box. There's really no substitute for fresh local ingredients and locally prepared dishes from inspired chefs ❤

Here's a black bean burger prepared with a number of ingredients from the Local Food Box!

This tasty morsel features produce (onion, lettuce, and tomato) from Pivot Produce, sunflower 🌻 sprouts from Martha's City Farm , and toasted focaccia bread from Beyond Bread

Lamb Empanada with Mexican Coleslaw from one of our more recent Local Food Boxes.

We used fresh cabbage from Blue Sky Organic Farms to make for a light refreshing palate cleanser to compliment the entree.

For the entree, these rich and hearty lamb empanadas were provided by Gallery of Food

Join us in wishing our cofounder, Jesse, the best of birthdays. His heart is so big and we are blessed to have him in our community!

Jesse Wayne works diligently behind the scenes to support local through his work on the local boxes. His skills in tech, design, process optimization, and program management have been critical in making all this a reality.

Going above and beyond in his role as cofounder, COO, and Creative Director, Jesse's dedication to create a human-centered local economy inspires us daily.

And if that wasn’t enough, Jesse is also an artist, musician, composer, and music producer creating as f@ P&a (spoken fat panda). He can play multiple instruments (but give him any new instrument and he’ll seemingly learn within hours).

The music he creates is incredibly diverse, at times creating songs in a number of genres (and probably some new ones). While a prolific creator, he only shares a small fraction of his creations. In summer 2020, f@ p&a's first official release debuted on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music.

Jesse continues to amaze and surprise us through expression in multimedia art. You can check out his Instagram .

Sara has always been passionate about supporting local, whether it's helping a business set up an online shop for the first time, providing consultations and training on a variety of topics, donating time at local non-profits, or bragging (alot) about the amazing local ecosystem here in Tucson, you can expect to see her ✨ sparkling and smiling every step of the way.

That's why it came as no surprise when she founded the last year, creating innovative new ways (starting with and ) to increase resiliency within our communities and shining a light of hope directly on some the greatest challenges we face today.

Glazed roasted chicken with 🔥 pricky pear BBQ and escabeche from .of.food and to offset the heat, a fresh and light arugula tomato salad with a savory roasted garlic and rosemary butternut squash from 🤤

And it really doesn't get more fresh than this. Included in this week's Local Food Box, fresh focaccia 🍞 from paired with locally grown tomatoes 🍅, radishes, and sunflower 🌻 sprouts provided by from local farms to our tummies.
