When people ask me what I believe to be the top reasons for divorce, one is that we live in a generation of “options overload.” One second you can leave your partner/spouse and be swiping right the next. It’s both sad & real.

Despite being a divorce attorney, I really am a hopeless romantic 💚 I love to feel love. I love to see love. I love to give love. And through both myself and my clients, I’ve learned so much about love and the reasons it fails. I want to believe when I meet my husband, divorce isn’t an option for us unless adultery or DV occurs. I want to believe that I’ll continue to give so much of myself in a relationship regardless of past failed relationships. A promise I made to myself this year was that I would prioritize opening myself up to dating this year, and it has since been interesting to say the least. Even when something or someone doesn’t go beyond a mere friendship, I love meeting new people and hearing their stories & being a part of their story even if it was for a brief episode of their life.

Regardless of the humorous content I create, I often do a mental happy dance when a client reconciles with their husband even if it means that we lose them as a client. I love seeing my friends get giddy when they talk about the new person they are seeing.

Learn to recognize when someone loves you or simply loves the idea of you, and vise versa. Understand that in order to give love, you must also love yourself and who you are. God created love, and just like all things created by Him, love is beautiful. But love takes work. A lot of it. Believe love exists. Open yourself to it. When you find it, don’t let it go. Cherish it, & save it every chance you get. Communicate about it, before the conversation becomes “where do we even begin.” Don’t let failed relationships make you cynical. By doing so, you allow those people to hold power over you & be what stands between you and genuine love. You deserve to be loved by someone just as much as you are capable of giving love 💚 praying everyone has a beautiful Valentine’s Day tomorrow.
