As someone who has never served our country in the armed forces I don’t even know how to reconcile the sacrifices made (by both the personnel and their families) that allow us the freedoms we enjoy in America today. All I know is that I’m beyond grateful. Happy Memorial Day; and to those who today who are mourning the losses of friends and family - my heart and prayers are with you today!

This post has been a long time coming, but as you can see partially even in this video lol - I’m blessed to lead a very full life as a husband, father, neighbor and business owner. I am definitely, though, super excited about the opportunity that has given me to start writing about my passion for the outdoors. My first article was published in the last edition of the magazine and my next article about our Montana hunt is planned to go out in the next edition! There is always more to the story, though! So I’m going to try to push out some “bonus” content (about this article and future articles) to tell some of the stories that I’m not able to squeeze into the magazine article that are still worth telling!

I have too many people to thank, and too much of a story to tell here, but the Lord smiled on this East Texas boy in Southwest Montana on public ground yesterday morning. I was blessed to be able to take this beautiful, dark chocolate mature black bear spot and stalk with my rifle. This was my first black bear on my first bear hunt, and it was completely unforgettable. Big thanks to for being here and helping make this opportunity happen and also huge thanks to .aka.tophand for being there by my side the entire time. Special thanks to for answering all my questions and for writing an awesome and helpful book! Also, shoutout to my incredible wife for holding down the fort back home with our 2 kiddos. This has been such a special and impactful experience that I’ll never forget. I’ll also be writing an article to tell as much of the story as I can in the next issue of !

This project is helping fund the Arkansas Fish & Game do research over the next three years in the Gulf Coastal region of Arkansas. Any research of black bears helps the scientific community understand the complexities of this icon of the North American landscape. Being able to further track the reintroduction of black bears and how are expanding into new landscapes and habitat is exciting!

This weekend I had the pleasure of going through the photo and film school of hard knocks. We hunted Turkeys by day and Raccoons by night; ate good food, had great talks and laughed (at ourselves) more than anything. Waylon the wonder dog stole the show for sure! Lastly, I also fulfilled my obligation to donate blood to the Southern Arkansas Mosquito foundation.

Got it in this afternoon! Feels good to be able to smile after a tough workout. in Montana is just a few weeks out! I’m feeling it and gearing up!!! Speaking of gearing up…loved my workout in my new .honeyhole performance gear! Love those guys over there!

I couldn’t remember if I posted when I did my first listen this week lol so I figured I would post round 2. is my absolute favorite podcast for lots of reasons (mostly but others too), but this series on “Where the Red Fern Grows” might be their best yet. This episode covers lots of great ground, but I really appreciate the values and convictions intrinsic to this set of storytelling. I hope you’re listening, because like always says - “You’re not gonna want to miss this one!”

I’ve spent a lot of time in the woods in East Texas and SouthEast Oklahoma the last couple years. I used to think we had a strong population of Barred Owls in this area. Last night while we were Hog hunting was the first time I was in the woods since last weekends’ event - and now I’m just wondering how many Arkansans hang out in the woods I hunt in making owl sounds 😂
