Dallas/Ft. Worth Siete Pares
Filipino martial arts specializing in double stick
It's quite an honor when someone tells me they took my idea and made it their own. Most of my ideas came from my instructors in one way or another but knowing that I positively influenced someone makes me proud and I wouldn't be the person I am without those around me.
The only time you can fail during martial arts is by quitting and never training again. Everything else is a learning opportunity
All martial arts have limitations. They formed, purposefully or organically, to solve a specific problem within a specific environment. Exception martial artists know the limitations of their art and are able to work within them while simultaneously learning to eliminate them.
The hardest part of martial arts is coming up with original ideas. Most people will never have an idea of their own creation. They take ideas, repackage or repurpose them to suit a particular situation and there's nothing wrong with that however, we can't grow without new ideas to bring us into the future.
You already know everything there is to know about escrima, you just haven't realized it yet.
You should be learning just as much from your students as they learn from you
Happy Thanksgiving!!! I know it's a little late but it was a good day
Not escrima related but still something we believe very strongly in is veteran su***de prevention. If you need help or just someone to talk to, we're here for you. Tomorrow is a new day and it's never too late to turn your life around.
We're having a Sinawali workshop in San Angelo next week. First hour or so will be basic Sinawali. Last 2 hours will be advanced so bring your thinking cap, eat you wheaties and say your prayers.
Today is GGM Bert's birthday. Master Gerald Dequito and I didn't some no touch sparring (because we're getting older and get hurt easily). Great Grandmaster Bert was an amazing man and he is missed very much
Happy birthday in heaven we'll seen you again some day
Been in San Diego the past few days for training. I got to spend some time with GM Nelson and got some good info to take back to Texas. I'm slightly sad to leave but it's best for Siete Pares that i go back to Texas and represent. I'll be back soon
Master Gerald Dequito and master Wes Richardson in San Diego
This is the spot I started training Siete Pares Escrima with GM Nelson and GM Bert. Master Gerald Dequito was kind enough to pick me up and take me here after he got off work.
One of my favorite things is talking to Master Jerry and/or G**o Brian on the phone. They have the ability to make me think about things in new ways. Siete Pares Escrima came into my life when I needed it the most and even though some people have moved on, I still have my brothers
"we want to maintain the system the way the founder did it" how many times have we heard that.......I've heard it quite a few and in my opinion, if that's what you want, you're moving away from martial arts and getting into religion. Escrima must grow in time and it is each person's responsibility to expand on the teachings of his/her instructor. Many systems try to keep things the way that's considered traditional with dwindling effectiveness. Our goal is to grow the martial art and the person. It changes with time just like the world around it. Escrima is part of the world as we see it not the other way around
Violence normally doesn't bother me as I see it as an unfortunate part of life but the shooting in uvalde really bugs me. It's not up to me but I imagine he's got some explaining to do and I don't imagine it's going to go well for him. Children have the right to safety and education and it's our responsibility to provide it. We can make all kinds of excuses but society really failed these poor children. They are in God's hand now and he'll pick up where we failed.
The guys from San Angelo came to see us today. I hope they got something good from the training we did today. I really appreciate the effort these guys make to keep things going
Good things are coming!!! No class this weekend as I'll be out of town so we'll resume regular classes on Wednesday weather permitting
Good luck to the guys from San Angelo Siete Pares. They went to san Diego to have fun and more importantly learn about themselves and the art
Respect is something that appears several times in the creed of Siete Pares. Respect those above you, those below you and those next to you.
We're back on Wednesday in Victoria park at 6ish weather permitting
No class tomorrow. After overcoming covid master wes has developed shingles and is unable to do much of anything. We'll see you all next weekend
We're out with covid for the next week or so.
Awesome but cold class this morning. Good job to CJ on his footwork and abecedario
Merry Christmas! We'll have classes again in January. Give us a call or send a message for class schedule
Happy Thanksgiving! We'll have regular class on Saturday at noon for anybody that wants to attend
Fun weekend with g**o Brian and G**o Greg from San Angelo. I really appreciate everything those guys do
Big ups to our little brother Jesse in San Angelo for getting his green belt. We've known Jesse for a long time and he's grown and learned a lot over the years. He's got a lot of potential and he's got some good teachers in G**o Brian, Harry and Greg.
Had some fun with the bottles yesterday. CJ is improving a little each week and his hard work is definitely appreciated
