Healthy, Lush Lawns – Americans love their lawns. A recent national survey conducted by Engine’s CARAVAN Omnibus on behalf of NALP found 77% of Americans report relaxing in their yards at least once a month. Well-maintained lawns support the well-being of neighborhoods and allow communities to connect, play, celebrate and unwind. Fall is one of the most critical seasons for preparing lawns and landscapes for year-round health.

A quick guide for St. Augustine Grass

5.0 to 8.5
Augustine grass tolerates a wide range of soil types. St. Augustine grass grows satisfactorily at a pH range from 5.0 to 8.5, but develops a chlorotic appearance in highly alkaline soils (above pH 7.5). It does not tolerate compacted or waterlogged soil conditions.

Where it grows?

St. Augustine grass occurs in most Caribbean and Mediterranean areas. It grows best in tropical climates. It is often seen in lagoons and marshes, on shorelines, and wherever there is a good amount of moisture.

Can St. Agustin grow from seeds?

St. Augustine grass does not generally produce viable seeds like other types of grasses do. ... Augustine grass must be established vegetatively using sod or plugs. April and May would be excellent months to lay sod or plant plugs to establish a new lawn or repair damage one.

Diseases:

Certainly, anthracnose (caused by the fungus, Colletotrichum graminicolais) is one possibility and another is brown patch (caused by the fungus, Rhizoctonia solani). Chinch bugs and grubs of the June beetle are other possible causes of St. Augustine problems

Yellowing Grass:
It can be caused by several factors. For example Pale, yellow leaf blades in St. Augustinegrass is often a result of low iron levels in the leaf tissue or nitrogen deficiency. ... The low levels of iron in the plant is caused by alkaline (high pH) soils found in many areas of the state.

Certainly, anthracnose (caused by the fungus, Colletotrichum graminicolais) is one possibility and another is brown patch (caused by the fungus, Rhizoctonia solani).

Is it good for shade?

Although St. Augustine grass tolerates some shade, it won't grow thick and beautiful in deep shade. You'll see instead a thin, spindly lawn. The turf requires at least four hours a day of sun to really do well.
