Your costs and responsibilities (insurance & vaccines are optional, but strongly recommended):

• arrange your plane ticket (typically $1,100 to $1,400 from a major city) to Tribhuvan International Airport (code: KTM)

• apply for/renew passports no later than four months (aim for May 1 to be safe) before trip departure as your passport needs six months of validity beyond the last day of your trip

• bring four passport size photos and a photocopy of your passport

• ensure medical coverage either through your current health insurance or by purchasing a travel plan and bring document indicating your coverage overseas

• purchase travel insurance to cover the value of your plane ticket and the $3,480 to $5,480 fee

• update your vaccinations, especially rabies

• upon arrival in Nepal, obtain a 15-day entry visa ($30) in the airport

• $800 nonrefundable deposit holds your spot and locks in current fee
