Still Here Recovery Coaching
We are Recovery Coaches and Recovery Coach Trainers.
Our follow up Recovery Coach Mentorship course is held online once a week for an hour and offers a valuable space to both experience and practice the coach approach.
We often say this is where the language and skills of a recovery coach are fully developed.
In our latest module on Preventing Reoccurrence, we offered participants the chance to work with one another to practice deep listening of a peak experience to discover what their values are.
To be heard, to be seen, to be ‘gotten’. What an extraordinary gift to both give and receive.
This is the stuff of life, long remembered.
Our next in-person recovery coach training is June 24-28, in White Rock, BC and the Mentorship is offered online continuously with rolling enrolment so you can start anytime after your initial training.
We want to help you help others in the way they deserve.
See link in our bio.
We love what we do and the people we get to meet! People from across this country that travel to begin their journey as a highly skilled recovery coach.
It all starts with the in-person training, and we’re so proud of each one that completes this five day training, where we challenge our own beliefs and biases, get vulnerable and practice many new skills.
As Candace from has shared, the safe space that is offered aligns with how we develop relationships with the people we work with.
We hope to help you on your journey to becoming a successful recovery coach. Next training is June 24-28 in White Rock, BC.

Last week we had the opportunity to discuss the importance of Reflective Listening as a means of establishing empathy as a recovery coach.
CCAR (Connecticut Community of Addiction Recovery) hosts what is known as “Woodard’s Webinar” in honour of the late, great Art Woodard, a sentinel of recovery coaching and one of the original facilitators of this training.
The process of change is complex, especially in people living with addiction, where the physiological battle can be intense. Building trust in the relationship can be the difference maker.
Reflective Listening Techniques REVEALED Join Kevin and Shelley in an insightful training on establishing empathy and the power of reflective listening. Discover how these techniques can elevate you...

Relapse Prevention: Key Strategies for “Staying Stopped”
UNDERSTANDING RE-OCCURRENCE
Re-occurrence is not a failure. Period.
In the first year of recovery, about 40-60 per cent of people will experience re-occurrence of substance use. However, some studies indicate re-occurrence of alcohol use is as high as 80 per cent, and relapse from opioids is as high as 80 to 95 per cent.
All is not lost.
In fact, re-occurrence provides essential details if we want to prevent it in the future.

Each call is a little different, but they have a common thread.
This "One Man's Journey" is an amalgam of several calls I've taken over the last several years.
Embracing Change: One Man's Journey Toward Recovery with a Sober Coach — Still Here Those who seek the help of a sober coach, often end up in recovery sooner and stay longer. Part of that reason is the person in recovery creates their own pathway to a better life.
Noticing this is a great visual metaphor of how a recovery journey might look.
Your first effort doesn’t work at all. Then maybe you might have a couple of revelations and gain some ground, but you’re not really in the right place to make it work.
Then maybe there’s more learning, a couple more things start to grow and stick, and after a couple more tries, you’re right on the VERGE and then maybe you MERGE into your new life in recovery.
Every step takes time, thought and effort. It can be frustrating, with so many unknowns, doubts as to whether it’s really worth it, wanting to give up at times. Unfortunately, many do — and don’t make it.
Enter a great recovery coach. They’re there to support you and cheer you on. To help you through the process of establishing what’s important to you, what your values and goals are so you can stay focused and REMEMBER why you’re doing what you’re doing. Asking those powerful questions you need to hear yourself answer.
Our coaches are highly skilled, experienced, certified and insured. Ethically bound and confidential. And importantly —we have lived experience with addiction and recovery.
Let us help you finish well.

Since January 2020, Still Here has had the privilege of connecting with individuals deeply committed to helping others recover from addiction. It all began with our inaugural Recovery Coach Training, an experience that has evolved into a remarkable story of resilience in the face of adversity.
When the pandemic struck, we contemplated transitioning to online training, but after firsthand experience and understanding the profound impact of in-person connection, we made a resolute decision to maintain in-person delivery. This choice has proven to be the best not only for us as a company but, more importantly, for the individuals we train and those who receive recovery coaching services.

Our next in-person training is scheduled for April 22-26, 2024, in the beautiful setting of White Rock, BC. It all begins with the power of genuine human connection.

Check out our latest video where we discuss how to find a focus with a client who is considering change.
Finding the focus with a client is the next step after engaging in a change conversation.
What are they most concerned about? What do they keep mentioning that seems to be ‘top of mind’ for them?
Finding that focus for what they might want to work on involves following that ‘loose thread’, being curious, asking good questions and providing accurate empathy through reflective statements.

Bob Ivanoff Joins Still Here Family
As a company whose overarching goal is to train the best recovery coaches in Canada, Still Here Recovery Coaching values hiring the best facilitators.
As we head into a year of growing capacity, it’s not surprising our first choice of new facilitators is Bob Ivanoff from Ontario.
Mr. Ivanoff came to us in 2022 as a professional recovery coach working at Greenstone Centre for Recovery.
He knew he needed more and joined us for the fall course in , held at Carleton University.
(He missed an important life event to make it to the five-day, in-person training. We’ll let you ask him what that was)
These are all marks of an elite recovery coach — an unending desire to learn more and sharpen skills.
He joined us for our 20-week mentorship online after the course and, on completion, stayed on as a Still Here mentor coach, helping others hone their skills.
He will be joining us for our Feb. 5-9, 2024 training in White Rock to begin his facilitating orientation with Still Here.
Those who’ve worked with Mr. Ivanoff describe him as intuitive, rock-steady and accurate in his assessments.
Still Here is grateful to add him to our roster of skilled recovery coach trainers, including Shelley Shadow, Davidson, Casey Hrynkow Shewchuk and Kevin Diakiw.
Watch this page for trainings being co-facilitated by Bob Ivanoff in 2024.

Take time to address the most important time of a recovery coaching session – the moment before it even begins.
The most important time of a recovery coaching session — Still Here What are you walking into a recovery coaching session with? Are you irritated, exhausted, or overwhelmed by work or family? It's crucial we know these things before engaging with a client. Here are a few tips on how to prepare.
Unpacking a life-changing phone call
On Friday, I told you the story about Austin, the homeless man who called me in the early summer.
He was living on the streets of Jacksonville, Florida, and wanted to return to his family.
He found me on the Web and called. We spent 40 minutes on the phone, a call he now says changed his life.
Let’s unpack a bit about what happened on that call.
First, I let curiosity remain my primary motivator. I wanted to know everything I could about Austin (not his real name for the purposes of this post).
From there, we were able to drill down into what his intrinsic motivator was. To my surprise, it wasn’t shelter. It was family connection.
I listened intently as he reminisced about time with his dad, bass fishing, and home-cooked meals with his mom.
Then we explored what was standing between him and this reconnection he wanted so badly.
It was his drinking.
I asked if he had tried anything before to stop that was successful.
None as of yet, he told me.
I told him there were lots of free supports out there, including AA, Smart Recovery, among others.
I had no idea how this was going to work out for Austin, until August, when he called to say thank you.
A recovery coaching intervention, even extremely brief, can make a world of difference.
A growing body of science backs this up.
You can learn more about the techniques we employ at www.still-here/recovery.

Rum, family, a place to live and bass fishing — Still Here The ringing phone pierced an otherwise soundless summer night last month, and reluctantly I reached for it. The work days were long, and rest was way too infrequent. “Kevin, it’s Austin (a pseudonym I’ll use to protect his identity for these purposes). He was calling from Jacksonville, Florida...
