๐ซ๐ผโจ Community provides many elements that are critical to mental health, but here are five of the most beneficial aspects:
๐ซถ Friendships Promote a Sense of Belonging:
A true sense of belonging includes the ability to feel you are a part of the community as your true self. A sense of belonging fulfills an important emotional health need and helps decrease feelings of depression and hopelessness, according to a study among people diagnosed with depression.
๐ซถ Friends Can Help Boost Self-Esteem:
Friends can improve your self-confidence and self-worth. A good friend is your cheerleader. You want to have friends to share in your success who are happy for you. Positive relationships build self-esteem while high self-esteem also leads to more satisfying relationships.
๐ซถ Strong Social Connections Help Offset Stressors in Your Life:
Having people you can call on when you need to talk or can help support you can help you through difficult situations. Physical touch can make a difference, receiving a hug relieves negative emotions such as stress.
๐ซถ Friendships help protect cognitive health:
The health benefits of friendships extend to the brain. A study found that having a friend you can have good conversations with may be part of whatโs protecting brain health. Those who reported having someone in their lives they could count on as a good listener were more likely to have higher levels of cognitive resilience (a measure of brain health known)
๐ซถ Having positive relationships with people who make healthy choices can motivate you to make similarly healthy choices. simply having a friend who counts on you can give you the motivation to take better care of yourself. Extending to things like loyalty, trust, compassion, love, etc. An integral part of healing is to rebuild the community, reconnect with loved ones, to revive the relational part of you in healthy ways.
