PO loads means you’re only using your own truck but not a trailer. In a drop & hook load the carrier picks up a loaded trailer, could be anything from dry van to flatbed, and drops it another location. Load out means you pick up an empty trailer (usually a dry van) and use it to book your own loads before delivering the empty trailer to its final destination. Typically, you’re allowed to use the trailer anywhere from 3 to 10 days. There’s also tow aways where you pick up and empty trailer, but you are NOT allowed to use it to haul freight. It must be picked up empty and delivered empty straight thru. Drop & hook and tow aways are the easiest to work with. Load outs require more work and planning. Number 1 suggestion when doing PO loads. Make sure to take pictures of whatever you’re picking up at both pick up and drop off locations and inspect trailers thoroughly.
DOPE LOAD…
Dispatch companies don't have MC numbers. You have to apply for a broker authority.
To make that distinction, FMCSA listed six factors to help determine if a dispatch service needs broker authority. Such authority is needed if the dispatch service:
Interacts or negotiates a shipment of freight directly with the shipper or a representative of the shipper.
Accepts or takes compensation for a load from the broker or factoring company, or is involved in any part of the monetary transaction between any of those entities.
Arranges for a shipment of freight for a motor carrier, with which there is no written legal contract with the motor carrier that meets the aforementioned criteria.
Accepts a shipment without a truck/carrier then attempts to find a truck/carrier to move the shipment.
Is a named party on the shipping contract.
Is soliciting the open market of carriers for the purposes of transporting a freight shipment.
FMCSA’s guidelines clarify that dispatchers operating as an unauthorized broker carry civil penalties of up to $10,000 for each violation.
IT IS MORE TRUCKS THAN FREIGHT OUT THERE.

Just a heads up, apparently there is a nationwide SYSCO worker strike, had a driver go into a facility this afternoon in PHX, and was turned away, broker found out about the same time as we were the 3rd truck he had being turned away, so check your carriers destinations, IF you ARE on a sysco load, get ahead of it, and if you aren't, then make sure you don't get on one without a plan in place.

DURR FREIGHT DISPATCHING SERVICES
A lot of truckers in this industry are strictly blaming brokers or dispatchers for their problems not knowing how freight is priced.
Please save this post for future reference so you have a good picture of how freight is priced.
A shipper may reach out to a broker and ask for a price or request their own pricing.
The broker will promise to get the job done using market price or the shipper set rate.
If the shipper sets a rate that is too low, a good broker will advise to raise the rates.
This is how it is basically done.
First and foremost:
The first reason why pricing goes up or down is when a trucker accepts the load at any rate. There is no other way around it.
When a trucker decides to haul something cheaper to get the load, they start setting market rates.
Brokers realize that truckers undercut each other so they take bids on loads. They don’t set a rate.
Some brokers are waiting for dispatchers and truckers to call in on a load knowing that one of them is desperate to leave and get elsewhere.
The consistency of these “gotta keep moving” truckers can lower the market rate.
The constant call ins by dispatchers makes it appear as if there are more truckers available and we all know fhe scarcity rule: too much = cheap too little = expensive
Now, there are other scenarios at play.
For instance, there are shippers paying high rates for loads. $7.50 per mile with additional charges.
The broker, knowing that truckers underbid each other and lowering the spot market rate will take bids or may lie when a trucker calls in and asks for a fair rate. They’ll say they got someone who can do it for cheaper, because YOU THE TRUCKER are part of the problem and I will explain that part at the end of the post.
Then you have double brokers.
You got people who are either carriers or brokers taking a posted load, getting someone else to run it ahead of the actual load and they call in and take it from the original source.
They got you to take a load for $800 even though the original posted load may have been $1000 or even $2000
They call in, tell the broker they can do it for maybe $900 and the difference between the price YOU AGREED TO is their profit.
You also have brokers that don’t even have a rate. They just pass your rate to the shipper. Again, YOU THE TRUCKER, are the reason for the market price for the most part.
Now, what all truckers are mad about is obviously the double brokering and exploiting people in need and carrying lies when actual rates are higher.
Well the government has a law for that:
49 C.F.R. 371.3(c) gives each party to a brokered transaction the right to review the record of the transaction required to be kept.
You have the right to see exactly what was paid for the original load.
Ok, but now let’s talk about solutions.
You can, as a trucker form an alliance and unionize.
My brokerage and my carrier can help with that.
You cannot try running in this industry like it’s 1980 when technology and cheaters are changing the way the game is run.
The choice is yours: adapt or perish!
Well I just found out that the Louisiana Downs casino in Shreveport doesn’t allow truck parking anymore.
