This time of year, we always hear people say “New year, new me.”

We create new resolutions to eat healthier, work out or break other bad habits. Psychologically, we need time to step back and reflect.

Often with the holidays and the calendar change, people take the time now to do so, but they often set themselves up to fail.

t seems as if “new year, new me” gives off the connotation that we will somehow evolve into the best versions of ourselves. But life isn’t just one instantaneous makeover. We are all works in progress. At this point in February, we can reflect on the things we want to change and congratulate ourselves on the progress we’ve made. We may try to revamp our routines and rebrand ourselves, but we’re just brushing up on the same canvas. At some point, we have to accept that we’ll slip up. We’ll have one or two cheat days from time to time, but that doesn’t mean that change is impossible. Reinventing the wheel is hard enough as it is. It’s far more efficient to tweak it until it’s just right. There are other ways to embark on the journey to self-improvement, which doesn’t happen overnight.

As we approach the new year, let’s not forget to treat each day like a fresh start.

"What kind of person do I want to be?"

No easy question to answer. But a good starting place is to decide what you want to motivate you.

There is a unique drive within humans to create value, to invest appreciation, time, energy, effort, and sacrifice in certain persons, groups, objects, and behaviors. Note that we don't literally experience value so much as create it. A sunset has value only if we actively invest the time and effort to appreciate it. Civilization is not a by-product of the instinct to survive and reproduce, as I recently read; it is a result of the drive to create value

Value needs to pour out of us, not into us. In other words, an authentic sense of personal value depends on the amount of value we create, not on how much we are valued by others.

Our inability to distinguish emotions that are motivations from those that are reactions is what makes feelings such a lousy guide for behavior. Consistently acting on feelings leads to frustration and powerlessness — reactive feelings are controlled by your environment. The value you create depends entirely on you.

Recognizing the direct correlation between health and wealth should not be overlooked, and I’m not suggesting money isn’t important, as we all need money to live, but I’m afraid that we take our health for granted at times which can impact our wealth and our ability to live a rich life.

You can shoot for the stars and never reach the moon because your flight in your mindset could not see the starting point clearly enough to get to the destination.

Have you ever been around a group of truly successful people? Have you ever spent time with people that are at the peak of their game? What were they like? How did you feel when you were around them? What type of “vibes” did they exude?

In a strictly human sense, your attitude determines your altitude means that you, have a positive or optimistic outlook, always seeing the good as opposed to the bad translates into being able to “rise above your challenges”, to get higher on the corporate ladder or make something good of yourself, despite your upbringing or circumstances. In other words, achieving what you set your mind to and setting your goals very high; believing you can achieve them.
How positive are the circles you travel in? Are you the highest achiever? Do they build you up as a person, or do they bring you down like crabs in a bucket? Do they challenge you? Sometimes to be a peak performer, you need to change the people you surround yourself with. Am I saying to disown your family? Of course not, but if they hinder your positive attitude on a regular basis…..I would think carefully about limiting how much time you spend with them. That goes for friends as well
Another point to consider is that you are responsible for checking your own positivity “barometer.” People often mirror how you act towards them. If you speak negatively, look negative, etc….that is what you will attract back! Some people have natural charisma and a positive attitude. Others have to work for it. If you need to work on it, DO IT! And don’t get upset about it! smile.
Your mind truly is like a parachute; it works best when open. Work daily on shifting your mindset to a, “Yes I Can Attitude” and you will find a greater level of success in life!
