God help all our brothers and sisters in Ukraine and Russia, damn those few people who make money and power from the sale of guns and the militarse and violence veiled with words for peace and security. Freedom and peace and human rights for all!

About 12/10/2021

I recently received my official mail-in ballot for November 2 where I and other long term registered Democrats who competed in the primary’s in May are by default now listed as Republican candidates.

Our own party denied our collective request for an open primary with no endorsements and instead Invest in fair and impartial elections with a focus on education and information about our political system.

While many Republicans and others are disappointed with our political system, the Democratic Party also perpetuates divisiveness and upholds selfish and destructive capitalist principles.

We understand that as a nation we are at a critical juncture — that we need a movement that will shift the moral narrative, impact policies and elections at every level of government, and build lasting power for poor and impacted people.

In the coming year, our ranks will increase as we broaden our efforts and stretch the banner of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival even wider. We rise together because:

1. We rise to demand that the 140 million poor and low-income people in our nation — from every race, creed, color, s*xuality and place — are no longer ignored, dismissed or pushed to the margins of our political and social agenda.
2. We rise not as left or right, Democrat or Republican, but as a moral fusion movement to build power, build moral activism, build voter participation, and we won’t be silent any more!
3. We rise to change the moral narrative and demand that the interlocking injustices of systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, the war economy/militarism and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism all be ended.
4. We rise to challenge the lie of scarcity in the midst of abundance.
5. We rise to lift the voices and faces of poor and low-income Americans and their moral allies with a new vision of love, justice, and truth for America that says poverty can be abolished and change can come.

If you believe it’s time to rise, join us! www.poorpeoplescampaign.org/about/

Norristown Municipal Council candidates ahead of May 18 primary 16/05/2021

Not surprised nonetheless disappointed with my local Democratic establishment most of whom ignored many candidates’ recommendation for an open primary with no endorsements i.e.,promote information and involvement by residents in our electoral process. I endorse Fernando Feliciano for council at large; recommend incumbent Rebecca Smith who voted to oppose the sale of the sewer system with current council member Hakim Jones, as well as Rashaad Bates District 1 who requested open primary’s.. No matter the outcome of these elections, we must unite to ensure peace and justice for all. 🌍☮️💞💪🏾🌈💃🏻 Contact me if you want to help at the polls Tuesday or in future.

Neighbors Opposing Privatization Efforts Recent actions by the majority of Norristown Council raise many questions. Will they claim they don’t need to follow our home rule charter? Last year, when the residents of Norristown learned of the attempt to sell off our sewer system to the profiteering corporation known as Aqua Pennsylvania, you...

I, Ana Santoyo for Norristown, will be present at this event and proudly wearing my NOPE t-shirt (Norristown Opposes Privatization Efforts). In case you haven’t heard Fernando for the People and I are running for Norristown Council. Majority of our local Democratic elites including some current council members ignored our request for a fair and open primary with no endorsements. Although we are Democrats we are not included in the glossy flyers and sample ballots mailed to your home. They do nor want you to know about us. Vote for Fernando and me if you want your voice heard by your council. We cannot be intimidated, bribed or bought. We represent Norristown for the Many!!! See you Saturday

Thank you to Elmwood Park Zoo and Norristown NAACP for supporting our residents to make an informed decision about who will represent us in 2022!. I am not sure any of us will be able to compete with the adorable red panda or the majestic bald eagles. I look forward to meeting all of you this Wednesday at zoo!

I cast my vote early at the official drop box at Airy and Dekalb! Vote early and vote for me if you live in the 3rd district, and for Fernando Feliciano for council at large!

If you want positive change for Norristown this is our opportunity to get a majority of independent residents on council, including Hakim Jones and Rebecca Smith, the only two council members who dared to vote against the sale of the sewer system.

Although I have been very active in the last three national Democratic elections, our local Democratic elites denied our recommendation for open primaries with no endorsements. Endorsed candidates are unfairly provided with numerous fancy mailings and promo pieces free of charge. An extremely questionable and undemocratic process.

Thank you for your interest and committment to improving Norristown!

Norristown will receive over $21.5 million in federal funds which must be spent by the end of 2024. Excellent overview and prep for May 18th primary elections with background on 4 important ballot questions available for a no/yes vote to all registered voters. To summarize:
1) find your sample ballot here https://webapp02.montcopa.org/voterservices/sampleballots/
2) Got to Vote411.org for info on the ballot questions which will amend PA's constitution, submitted by Republican majority, likely to pass unless majority vote NO.
- I will vote no on questions 1&2 which will tie the hands of our governor during an emergency with a simple majority (currently requires 2/3 majority).
- The 3rd question is not inclusive and will allow for reverse discrimination suits.
- Norristown's fire chief wants us to vote YES on the 4th question. I'm not sure. I would like to encourage more volunteers to serve and protect our community.

What Is Restorative Practices? 13/04/2021

What are your priorities for Norristown?

I want to thank all who participated on Sunday's community conversation! Many ideas were shared regarding safety and revitalization of Norristown that is inclusive and equitable of current residents of Norristown.

We will continue to make this space available to listen to each other with the ultimate goal of encouraging and building collective actions to make Norristown a better place for ALL. JOIN OUR NEXT CONVERSATION @ 7PM SUNDAY, APRIL 25th - ALL ARE WELCOME!

As a long term social activist, I believe we need to consider new mechanisms to finance and build community. Here is one such model that might be incorporated into our local government, courts, and schools - "Restorative Practices" is the emerging social science of relationship and community. The purposeful attention to authentic conversation is the foundation for community well-being. The aim of Restorative Practices is to develop community and to manage conflict and tensions by repairing harm and building relationships. Here's a 2-minute video on "What is Restorative Practices?" https://www.iirp.edu/restorative-practices/what-is-restorative-practices

What Is Restorative Practices? The science of relationships and community. All humans are hardwired to connect. Just as we need food, shelter and clothing, human beings also need strong and meaningful relationships to thrive. Restorative practices is an emerging social science that studies how to strengthen relationships betwee.....

After crime plummeted in 2020, Baltimore will stop drug, s*x prosecutions 29/03/2021

What ideas do you have to improve Norristown?

The subject of drug decriminalization and open drug sales was raised at our first community conversation last night. See article below regarding Baltimore stopping drug prosecutions. Some believe this may be helpful, and are concerned over the negative consequences of legal drug use and drug sales for everyone in our community. Thinking of alcohol, ci******es, guns - all legal often glamorized in pop culture.

Ideas/Priorities Raised @ Community Conversation 3/28/21:

Some important local activism/results: stopped sale of farm park to make into a golf course; stopped random checkpoints by local police resulting in unfair detentions and deportations of immigrant residents; stopped the sale of sewer plant to Aqua in Norristown and Conshy.

* Protect Norristown's assets and green spaces.
* Support existing homeowners and affordable housing.
* Hold bad landlords accountable and find out how much these landlords owe in back taxes and what can be done to hold them accountable.
* Research ideas for revitalization and higher revenue without displacement of current residents.
* Improve transparency of Norristown council actions and local financing.
* Improve communication with detailed information by Norristown council and other local government to Norristown residents, maybe through written notices in English and Spanish with municipal taxes and Waste Authority bills.
* Clean up the trash/build community post pandemic by encouraging more Democratic committee persons, block captains, block parties.
* Work with and support local police to protect our children from drug use and drug sales.
* Support local businesses and jobs creation.

Together for a Better Tomorrow - Unidos para un Mejor Manana

SAVE THE DATE and join our next community conversation Sunday, April 11th at 7pm.

After crime plummeted in 2020, Baltimore will stop drug, s*x prosecutions The move to not prosecute drug and s*x cases was initially to keep people out of jail during the pandemic, but crime dropped so Baltimore is making it permanent.

Norristown will host a special, one-day COVID-19 vaccination clinic this week that is open only to residents of the municipality.

The event will be held on Saturday, March 27, at Municipal Hall from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Priority will be given to those who are over 65 years old, and identification will checked, officials said.

To receive a dose, you must apply ahead of time. The only ways to apply are by calling the Greater Norristown NAACP (610-316-2340) or by picking up an application in person at Municipal Hall (235 E Airy St) or ACLAMO Family Services (512 W Marshall St).

20/03/2021

Here are a few important resources available in English and Spanish.

* Call 211 or visit https://yourwayhome.org/eruc if you live in Montco and need Emergency Rent and/or Utility Assistance.

* Call Montco Community Connections for resources and support services at 610-278-3522, 8a-4p, M-F.

* Call Montco's COVID-19 Hotline for assistance with getting a vaccine at 833-875-3967, 8a-8p, Mon-Sat.

Below are photos of me and my friends earlier this week contributing with many other volunteers in providing a hearty and nutritious meal at Cecil and Grace Bean's Soup Kitchen at St John's Episcopal Church. Thank god we seem to still have enough food for all despite this pandemic. Living wages, affordable housing and health care are a major problem beyond Norristown, and before this pandemic. We must work together for a better tomorrow!🥰

Amig@s,

The Pennsylvania Poor People’s Campaign along with The Movement of Immigrant Leaders in Pennsylvania (MILPA) and The Driving PA Forward Coalition invite you to a letter writing workshop in support of HB279; legislation that would allow all Pennsylvanians to access a standard issue driver’s license, regardless of our immigration status. Join us on Saturday March 20th at 12 pm!

The freedom of movement and the right to be safe on our roads is a basic need for people across Pennsylvania. A driver’s license and valid identification are vital for accessing healthcare, vaccines, food, schooling and getting safely to and from essential jobs.
"The Path of 40 Days" is a 40 day effort ending on Easter Sunday calling for a moral leadership in our state and to ensure the safety of every Pennsylvanian. We are praying, writing letters, sharing videos and making calls to our state legislators in support of HB279. As the Pennsylvania Poor People’s Campaign we call on our state legislature to reject all politics of division among the poor and working class across our commonwealth that undermines and ignores the growing poverty across our 67 counties. Fight poverty, not the poor! Join us this Saturday March 20th from 12pm to 1pm where we share about the effort for driver’s licenses and walk supporters through how to write your letter to your legislator in support of driver’s licenses for all.

*HB279 was introduced by Representative Danilo Burgos, Representative Chris Rabb, Representative Sara Innamorato, Representative Joe Hohenstein, Representative Chris Quinn and Representative Jon Hershey on January 27th, 2021 and is currently in the Transportation Committee. Legislation will soon be introduced in the Senate by Delaware County Senator Tim Kearney.
Here's the Facebook event and the link to join the meeting.

Thank you

Thank you Sunanda for inviting me to get a COVID vax as a volunteer and long term collaborator with the center!

I am theoretically in 1A, fortunate to able to mostly work from home. Feel those with health risks should be a priority. I registered on a few sites, but had not gotten an appt.

I got my 1st Moderna shot yesterday Norristown Regional Health Clinic. Great experience. Given an opportunity to discuss my concerns with a doctor prior to the vaccine. Mil gracias!

COVID-19 relief package could reduce US child poverty by half 15/03/2021

Many of us worked hard to get Biden/Harris and other Democrats in office. Disappointed minimum wage was not raised but this is so hopeful and beyond necessary. Pre COVID, 20% of those living in poverty are children (not including their caregivers)! https://www.today.com/video/covid-19-relief-bill-could-reduce-us-child-poverty-by-half-106432069726

COVID-19 relief package could reduce US child poverty by half President Biden signed the almost $2 trillion coronavirus relief plan into law last week, even though it was met with criticism from Republicans that most of the proposed spending is unrelated to the pandemic. But Democrats argued that many of these measures get at the root of poverty in America —...
