The Capitol Studios feature echo chambers that were designed by legendary guitarist and recording innovator Les Paul. The echo chambers are subterranean concrete bunkers that are located 30 feet underground. They can provide reverb that lasts up to five seconds—the effect is perhaps most famously heard on The Beach Boys classic, Good Vibrations.

The mandolin, today known as a quintessentially Italian instrument, developed in the 16th and 17th century. They were members of the lute family, but had fewer strings than other treble lutes of the period. A wide variety of forms and stringing developed, and the small, gut-strung, lute-like mandolin remained popular in Northern Italy long after the better-recognized “bowl-back” instrument emerged in Naples in the mid-1700s.
This small mandolin is one of two surviving from the Stradivari workshop. Several patterns relating to mandolin construction survive in the Museo del Violino in Cremona, though this instrument is somewhat different in shape. The pattern corresponding best to the size of this mandolin is inscribed “mandolino coristo,” or choral mandolin, though the meaning of that term is not understood. The current peghead is modeled after one of the surviving patterns, paired with the original neck. The instrument is notably feather-light, and constructed with a staved maple back and poplar or willow neck.
