As I read the recent headlines about Cassie and Diddy, my heart sank. It brought back memories of a time when I, too, found myself trapped in a toxic and abusive relationship. It’s a painful reality that many of us have experienced, yet often feel hesitant to speak out about.

There were moments when I questioned whether my abuse was “bad enough” to warrant speaking up. I feared that by sharing my story, I would only make matters worse. What if they retaliated and hurt someone I love? What if they turned the blame on me? These thoughts consumed me, and I felt trapped in a cycle of fear and silence.

But here’s the truth: any form of abuse is never acceptable. It doesn’t matter if it’s physical, emotional, or verbal. It doesn’t matter if it happens once or repeatedly. Abuse is abuse, and it should never be tolerated or excused.

I remember the excuses I made for my abuser. I loved his family, and we had been together for so long. He promised he wouldn’t do it again, and I convinced myself that he didn’t mean it. I even brushed off his hurtful words as “just jokes.” But deep down, I knew that no amount of love or excuses could justify his actions.

It’s crucial that we hold these men accountable for their behavior. We must not let their fame, wealth, or influence overshadow the pain they have caused. By speaking out and demanding justice, we send a powerful message that abuse will not be tolerated in any form.

To those who have experienced abuse, I want you to know that you are not alone. Your pain is valid, and your voice matters. It’s okay to feel scared or unsure about speaking up, but remember that there are resources and support systems available to help you through this journey.

Together, we can create a society where abuse is not swept under the rug or excused. We can break the cycle and empower survivors to find their strength and reclaim their lives. Let us stand united, holding these men accountable and working towards a future where love and respect prevail.

In this photo, I was broken. For six long years, I found myself trapped in a toxic relationship where I was mistreated both verbally and, at times, physically. It’s not easy to admit, but I allowed these things to happen. I blamed myself, thinking I deserved it. “ He didn’t mean what he said.. but he loves me” .. stories I tried to make myself believe to justify the wrong actions.

But today, I stand here as a survivor, ready to share my story and shed light on the importance of self-love and awareness during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It’s time to break the silence and empower others who may be going through similar experiences.

I never told my family members about the abuse because I didn’t want them to get involved. I feared their judgment and how they would perceive the person who hurt me. I’ve always been that girl who felt overlooked, but now I realize that my voice matters, and my experiences deserve to be heard.

If you’re reading this and find yourself in a similar situation, please know that you are not alone. Reach out to someone you trust, a friend, a helpline, or a support group. You deserve love, respect, and a life free from abuse.
