Raising Arrows Horsemanship
Welcome to Raising Arrows Horsemanship. I offer riding lessons, horse starting, and refreshers.
I love the 2 and 3 year old kiddos so much. Their enjoyment of life and excitement about the horses is so fun! Everything is a big deal and when they learn the can move the horse themselves, it’s like watching a light come on.
This little mare is owned by one my clients. Her kiddos have recently started doing some lessons on her and to watch her come to life with the kids is special. This was little Zoey’s first real ride and it was on their sweet mare.
G is learning how to use a myler combo with soft hands. It’s a learning curve for her but she’s doing good so far. ❤️
Last nights lesson with this father daughter duo went so good. Kimber’s family is learning all about riding and care together as they prepare to get horses of their own.
This moment was pretty special. I’ve been working with Gracie and her family for a bit now and her mama was able to take one of my boys to see Gracie’s first ride out. It was such a special day. Gracie did incredible. She was cool, confident, and collected. ❤️
Gracie has come quite the way. We have worked through fears and gaining confidence. She is excited, confident, and loves to help around the ranch in any way needed. She has a big heart to teach others what she has learned.
**no she doesn’t ride without helmets.
Ms. K has come so far. She is confident and excited! Even on the really cold days she pushes through. She loves every aspect involved with owning a horse.
Mr. E has been coming out for therapy lessons since end of last summer. His first time out he wouldn’t talk to anyone except mama. He wasn’t very interested in brushing or engaging with the horses but said he wanted to be there. We set micro goals starting with grooming, then getting him on the horse which took some trouble shooting(mom rode with him for a bit), then we got him on with no reins. One day he showed interest in having some reins and controlling the direction he was going. Now he does all the control and we only hold the lead rope to give time for him to respond and regain control(change direction, walk, stop). He looks forward to coming and gets to choose between Dakota and Shammie. Before he would tap out in under 30 minutes and now he grooms, tacks, walks, and rides for the full hour. Seeing how far he has come is beyond words and warms my heart to see the growth in him and his communication skills.
This excited young lady showed incredible improvement from her first lesson to yesterday. She communicated with Bryer more, she maintained control without me tell her every step, remembered the basics, and used them well.
Sweet Rowyn loves lessons so much ❤️ I love watching the kids apply what they learn!
Gracie is totally killing it. She motivated, excited, and fully engaged in all the “why” we do what we do. Today she said they Bryers forelock made him look like a rockstar! 😂❤️ I love working with kids.
Tayvah loves grooming Bryer. ❤️ She’s also really excited about ba****ck.
I personally love to work with kids riding ba****ck so they learn to stay balanced without relying on a saddle/stirrups. I’ve learned that their seat is more balanced and stable if they learn the movement of the horse through ba****ck riding. They learn what muscles to use, how to use their legs, and engage their core.
Kailyn had her first lesson for her 13th birthday this weekend. ❤️
Lydia’s birthday ride ❤️
Saturday we had a really special trail ride. Lydia who I started watching when she was 4 weeks old for her mama while she was at work, turns 13 in a few weeks. Heather reached out and asked if I would take her on a birthday trail ride. Of course I couldn’t resist and off we were. She did great. Since she has only ridden a few times we had some teaching moments along the way on holding her hands lower and keeping the reins a little looser, how to bump him into a walk and keep him there without consistent pressure. She said she had a blast and her mama may be getting her into lessons. ❤️
A very short video of Tay’s first ba****ck ride.
A snip it from Kimber’s first ride ❤️
Tay rode ba****ck today and it was so cute. It’s definitely not easy to take videos and teach at the same time 😂
After a few seconds she said aunty I need to take my shoes off. They are going to fall off and I can’t ride thinking like that 😂
Bryer LOVES kids and is totally amazing with them. Little miss K had her first lesson today and did really well. She’s sweet as can be and is so excited to continue coming.
I’m thankful for all the kids and parents I have right now. I truly love working with them all.
The last two days I’ve had the pleasure of starting lessons with these two little ladies. The smiles on their faces and the love that grows so quick is magical! ❤️ It sets my heart on fire.
When a kiddo communicates with a horse and it does exactly what they are asking their eyes light up like the whole world is in their hands.
This sweet girl started coming to therapy lessons 2 weeks ago. She’s on spectrum and needs to work through each phase as she’s ready. Putting her feet in the stirrups at first was a struggle so we walked the round pen for a moment until she was ready for the next step and was able to put her feet in the stirrups right after this video ended. By the end of her lesson she was able to turn Dakota in any direction she wanted to go, stop, and walk by herself. She did not want to leave when her lesson was over.
Gabe is doing well. Drills are not his favorite but learning to guide a horse through obstacles is important. Gabe would much rather just get on and go for a trail ride.
Miss Olive worked on desensitizing, standing while lifting feet(so we can get her feet done), ground work, and being saddled today. We don’t know much about her past other than she was barely handled and she came terrified of ropes and whips. She’s getting better by the day. She’s very smart and learns quick. She didn’t think twice about being saddled.
Every day she wakes up and asks her daddy, “Is today the day I get to go ride horses?” ❤️
Today Tayvah got to go on a trail ride. She really wanted to “ride in the woods” so we made that happen for her.
Trei loves riding Bryer so much! When he first started lessons he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do. Since he has gotten a taste of trail rides he has decided he wants to keep it low key and stick to trail rides. ❤️
Having a horse therapy ranch is one of my goals in life. I’m in the process of starting some courses that will enable me to work hand in hand with mental health counselors to provide therapy lessons for their clients her locally without having to become a counselor myself.
God has totally been opening up the doors to make this happen. I had my first therapy kiddo this weekend. It solidified that this is exactly what I want to be doing. It was a joy working with her and her mom was so thankful. I am not the best at receiving compliments but she just kept sharing about how amazing my ability is to work with and communicate with kids. They took a ton of pictures and videos and will be sharing them with me to share with others on my business page. For now I have these few and I look forward to working with this family. We worked through each step as she was ready. We started at grooming, wearing a helmet, then answering all her questions about how Dakota will respond to her reactions and making sure she felt safe to get on. We tacked Dakota up and then took a break to go see Cash. Then we took Dakota to the round pen. When she was ready she got on. We walked around the round pen once or twice until she was ready to try putting her feet in the stirrups. By the end of her hour she was able to turn him in the direction she wanted to go, stop him, and back him. she told me she didn’t know if she was going to like this but that her mom was right I am nice and she never wants to leave. She said she felt like she was a girl off the show Free Rein on Netflix. She was very bummed when her mom said she had to wait two full weeks before coming back to her next therapy lesson.
I LOVE teaching lessons in general but working with kids that have special needs and watching them open up is magical.❤️

Today was Tayvah’s first lesson. She groomed Bryer, learned what all the pieces of tack were that we put on him, how to lead him around, and how to walk, turn, stop, and back him. When we were done she helped me clean Cash and Meelah’s stall. Cash absolutely loved her. ❤️
So blessed to be a part of watching a girls dreams come true ❤️ Last night we got to pick up Cam’s first horse. 8 months ago she started lessons and because of her hard work, dedication, and passion that she has shown consistently she was able to pick up this sweet mare last night.
Watching her go from totally unsure and nervous her first time on Bryer to loping the barrels confidently has been amazing to watch first hand. Thank you, Megan, for allowing me the opportunity to work with your daughter and watch the fire ignite within her.
I’m so excited to watch her journey with Star!
Camy, I am so proud of you. You deserve every bit of this and have worked hard for it!
