The pressure we put on ourselves can be paralyzing or motivating
We often put more pressure on ourselves than we recognize.
When we have expectations or demands on us, we can believe that continually thinking about it (worrying) or pressuring ourselves, we are motivating ourselves to do something. But when that pressure isn’t being moderated or managed, it can lead to feeling stuck and unable to do the thing we are trying to move towards. This can be a result of judgement about ourselves, our capabilities, or even our worthiness. Pay attention to what you’re telling yourself and notice if it is motivating you or paralyzing you.
If you are struggling with motivation, worry or self judgment, reach out today for a free consultation to learn how you can go from feeling stuck to feeling motivated.

The closest relationship you have is with yourself.
How do we take care of our most precious relationships? We nurture them. We encourage them. We give them compassion, grace and forgiveness. If the closest relationship you have is with yourself, wouldn’t it be important to nurture that relationship?
If you struggle with this, reach out today to learn how to foster self compassion and heal your relationship with yourself. Learn how to talk to yourself the way you would talk to your best friend. When you feel better about who you are, all of your relationships will be better too.

Grief and love are partners.
When we experience loss, the pain we feel is a result of the love we shared. On Valentine’s Day, that pain might be a little more deep. Allow yourself to acknowledge it and move through it, giving yourself space and grace to feel the grief and the love.
If you or someone you know is struggling to process their grief, reach out today to learn ways to grow from and move through your grief.
When life becomes overwhelming, it’s important to cultivate a safe space for yourself in your mind and body. Check in with yourself and ask which of your concerns are within your control right now in this moment. Create space, even if just for 5 slow deep breaths to find a moment of stillness. Sometimes that reset reenergizes and refocuses us so we can actually make progress toward our goals. If you need a sounding board to help you sift through what may or may not be in your control, or if you need guidance in letting go, I’m here. If you live in Texas, call my office or click the link in my bio to set up an appointment with me.

It can be easy to fall into a negative thought spiral when life feels too hard. It’s helpful and good to acknowledge our feelings. However, when we stay in that negative space, instead of allowing ourselves to move through the feelings, we can end up swimming in self pity, and forgetting the strength that’s gotten us through every hard thing before this. Remember, if you invite yourself to the pity party, don’t overstay your welcome!

Changing the way we look at things, whether that be our own inner self talk, the noise of the world around us, or just how we live each day, can be life changing. It is important to note that we get to choose what we think about and where we spend our energy. We can take lessons from the difficulties in our lives, find the meaning in those hard times and in that way, give the struggle purpose by reframing it, making it an opportunity for growth.

Our brains will gravitate to the familiar and use it as evidence, so when we have “evidence” for our anxiety, worry, limiting beliefs, etc., we come to expect those things to always be true, increasing the cycle of worry and limiting beliefs. Are you ready to break the cycle? Reach out today. (817) 401-3940

Most people come to counseling For a number of reasons: daily life stress is causing anxiety and/or depression, relationship issues, old emotional wounds that were never healed, past and current traumas, etc. Often, they come because they need/want an impartial person to just listen. The very act of saying something out loud without fear of judgment can be very cathartic. If any of these resonate with you and that you might benefit from having someone to talk to, reach out and let's get started on your path to healing. (817) 401-3940

While things can sometimes feel worse before they feel better in counseling, it’s important to understand that while those feelings are part of the process, they are only temporary. If we stuff our emotions and pretend nothing is wrong, eventually those emotions will come out, and maybe not in the way you want. If you know you have emotions that need to be processed, reach out. I'm here to gently guide you through. Schedule an appointment through my link in bio.

When we take the time and effort to invest in our own wellbeing, we increase our capacity to participate fully in our lives. This is a benefit to ourselves, and all those around us. There's nothing selfish about that.

When we are in the midst of struggle, it can be difficult to bring our attention to the present moment. Our brains can deceive us into believing that we can think our way through the anxiety – maybe if we worry enough, plan enough, prepare for every possible outcome, then we can avoid our negative feelings or consequences. By focusing on future “what if’s” we limit ourselves and our ability to handle the very thing or things we are worrying about. Reach out today and let me help you find a new way to "be where you are." (817) 401-3940

Anxiety is our body’s warning system to alert us to possible danger. It can be a motivator to do something differently. It can come in very handy if you’re being chased by a bear, or being threatened in some way. However, anxiety doesn’t always get it right. When anxiety is working overtime, it can cause many different, uncomfortable symptoms and amplify the emotions and feelings we are trying to avoid by worrying. If you feel like your anxiety is out of control, reach out and schedule an appointment with me today. I will work with you to identify the source, name your feelings, and offer tools to help you manage your anxiety so you can move through those moments with more grace and ease.

Self compassion/grace is essential to healing. When it comes to allowing yourself to make mistakes, feel your feelings, and release self-judgment, be sure to allow plenty of space for grace to move in and make room for change.

We can’t live in the past. It’s already happened. But we must LOOK at the past and LEARN from it, so that we can apply the lessons to today. We can’t live in the future because it hasn’t happened yet, but we can have goals and plans for the future, just don’t stay there.

While we can’t always control the thoughts that pop into our head, we do get to choose what we do with those thoughts. It can be a challenge to recognize that not everything we think is true. When we are struggling with anxiety, our brain can lie to us. Use curiosity without judgment to look for evidence and discern what is truth and what is a temporary feeling.
Do you feel stuck? Is your brain on an endless loop of reasons why something won’t work out or why things won’t get better? Most of us carry around limiting beliefs subconsciously. When we identify them, we can let them go and make space for creative solutions to our problems. If this resonates with you and you suspect you might have limiting beliefs that you need help identifying, reach out and book an appointment with me today. Let’s begin your journey toward freedom together.
Ae you ready to drop the self-judgement and practice loving your self? Reach out, I am here to help you make that happen.

In my work as a therapist, I have found that most people don’t realize how harsh and critical they are with themselves. Because our brains are hardwired for the negative, it’s easy to be oblivious to our negative self talk.
*

*
Judgmental self talk feels familiar and therefore, comfortable. If it’s comfortable and familiar, it isn’t going to stand out to us. But once we pay attention to the words in our head, we are often surprised by how much negativity there is. This self judgment keeps us from growing and living our most fulfilling life.
