๐ŸŽ’๐Ÿ“š Attendance Awareness Month is here! ๐ŸŒŸ

Let's come together to highlight the importance of regular school attendance. Did you know that students who attend school consistently are more likely to achieve academic success and build strong social skills? ๐Ÿซโœจ

Families, teachers, and students โ€“ let's work hand in hand to ensure our children are present, engaged, and ready to learn every single day! Here are a few tips to promote good attendance:

Set a Routine: Establish a consistent sleep schedule and morning routine.
Create a Positive Environment: Encourage a love for learning at home.
Communicate: Keep an open line of communication between parents and teachers.
Support: Offer help when students face challenges that may hinder attendance.

Together, we can make a difference! Let's celebrate by committing to being present and making every school day count. ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“–

Friday in Kindergarten!! ๐ŸŽ‰

Kinder students have been rocking their school by jumping right into their new curriculum! To celebrate, they had a Pete the Cat "Rock Their School Day" that reviewed & extended some of the standards they have covered so far. Their day was full of fun hands-on activities!

First, students got to string out syllables on their guitars, which is a big focus within the new structured literacy piece of HMH.

Next, students got to use 3D glasses to help identify numbers 1-10, where they recorded it by matching the number with the same amount of objects. This practice has been a big skill within the new math supplement, Envision!

Another activity involved the students practicing color words, which was a review from their previous color days. There was another activity that involved the students identifying 2D shapes (a great extension practice as they are learning about shapes for their next unit within the Georgia Standards of Excellence).

To add in some extra fun for the day, the students got to make their own groovy snack of chocolate โ€œmudโ€ and mixed in their own ingredients by sequencing their steps of making their mud snack! Each activity tied into a Pete the Cat book as well. These Eagles had so much rocking their school for the day!

Friday in Mrs. Renshaw's Room!

Last week in our new HMH curriculum, first grade focused on friendship. Our story, โ€œA Kidโ€™s Guide to Friends,โ€ taught us all about how to make friends and be a good friend to others. To celebrate what we learned, we had a โ€˜Fun Food Fridayโ€™ and made a special Friendship Fruit Salad! Each ingredient represented our wonderful classroom โ€” kind friends, hardworking students, and kids who use kind words and hands.

We also talked about how we only want positive attitudes in our classroom. We had a juicy apple that looked good on the outside, but when we cut it open, it was rotten inside. The kids decided we didnโ€™t want to add a โ€œbad appleโ€ to our friendship salad. This sparked a great discussion about how we all want to be kind, positive, and supportive โ€” just like our fruit salad!

Weโ€™re so grateful to have a class full of Eagles who are as sweet as can be! ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿ‡

๐ƒ๐ข๐ ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ ๐Š๐ง๐จ๐ฐ: School buses are the most regulated vehicles on the road. Theyโ€™re designed to be safer than passenger vehicles in preventing crashes and injuries, and in every state, stop-arm laws exist to protect children from other motorists.
If you are driving, remember these simple rules:
โ€“ ๐˜๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ ๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐š๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ๐ฌ ๐จ๐ง ๐š ๐ฌ๐œ๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ฅ ๐›๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐ฆ๐ž๐š๐ง ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ ๐๐จ๐ฐ๐ง โ€” donโ€™t speed up โ€” because the bus is preparing to stop. There are - likely students waiting to get on the bus or parents waiting nearby to pick up children.
โ€“ ๐‘๐ž๐ ๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐š๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ๐ฌ ๐ฆ๐ž๐š๐ง ๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ โ€” and wait at least 20 feet behind the bus โ€” because children are getting on or off the school bus. Stay stopped until the red lights stop flashing, the extended stop-arm is withdrawn, and the bus begins moving.
โ€“ ๐„๐ฏ๐ž๐ง ๐ฐ๐ก๐ž๐ง ๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ๐ฌ ๐š๐ซ๐ž๐งโ€™๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐š๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ , ๐ฐ๐š๐ญ๐œ๐ก ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐œ๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐ž๐ง, particularly in the morning or mid-afternoon, around school arrival and dismissal times. Be alert as you back out of a driveway, or drive through a neighborhood, school zone or bus stop.
Your child should arrive at the bus stop at least 10 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Teach them to play it SAFE:
โ€“ ๐’tay five steps away from the curb.
โ€“ ๐€lways wait until the bus comes to a complete stop and the bus driver signals for you to board.
โ€“ ๐…ace forward after finding a seat on the bus.
โ€“ ๐„xit the bus after it stops and look left-right-left for cars before crossing a street.
