Chair-ity, Inc.
Chair-ity provides donated furniture & household goods to youth who age out of foster care.
We're reminiscing on last year's golf outing as we gear up for year two! You can still snag a foursome, join us for happy hour, or even bid on our auction items from home if you can't make it out to Mayfield Country Club this year! Check it all out here: https://golfforhome24.givesmart.com
We set up every young adult we serve with a design volunteer who helps them curate their new home from our inventory of donated furniture items. For many aged out foster youth, this is one of the FIRST choices they've been able to make in their lives. We believe this creates a sense of dignity, identity, and pride in their new space, and supports them on their path to independent living!
Thank you to our presenting sponsor Provide A Ride for making our Second Annual Golf Outing possible! Join us for Happy Hour after the course! Get your tickets here: https://golfforhome24.givesmart.com

We were honored to be invited to speak at 100womenstrongOHIO's Sweet Six Year Anniversary Party last night. Did you know most nonprofits don't make it past the six year mark?
100 Women Strong secretly won a $100k grant from Subaru Share The Love Campaign and surprised us all by generously splitting the award between the six charities invited to the event! We are honored to be one of these nonprofits, and proud to be part of their community alongside some other wonderful local nonprofits. We are !

Emani, 23, just moved into her first apartment. Since age 17 she has been living a transient life, couch-surfing or living with friends. Between her years in foster care and couch-surfing, she has never known the stability of having a space for herself and her now 3-year-old daughter. Due to the instability, her daughter could not always live with her, staying with relatives for periods. They have lost many of their personal belongings in the various moves, with no long-term storage options available. The stars aligned and she found this apartment through a coworker. After many months of saving, finally, she moved in, but she wasn’t sure how she would furnish the apartment before Chair-ity came into her life. She revealed that she didn’t quite have a plan on how she would furnish the space. She hoped to get hand-me-downs from friends or buy what she could here and there until it came together. With Chair-ity's help, the burden of furnishing her place is gone. Now, she says she can focus her money on other essentials like bills, clothing, toys, and food for her daughter now that they can finally live together without fear of another move.
“My apartment means home to me,” Emani told Chair-ity. “I never had my own home. Nothing at all, no guidance. I’ve always wanted a home because I wanted my daughter with me. I want her to have the best of everything in the world, and I want her to know that I’ve been working so hard to get her whatever she wants and needs and be the best mom that I can be. I did this for her, not for me.”
Emani’s sights are set on getting her driver’s license and starting her nursing career. Thanks to one of Chair-ity’s community partners, she now has her driving permit! She is well on her way to pursuing her dreams, and we are so proud of her for the great strides she has already made. Emani is truly a ray of sunshine, and we have no doubt she will have a successful future!

At Chair-ity, we aim to furnish the homes of aged-out foster youth within one week of receiving their referral. This minimizes the amount of time anyone has to sleep on the floor due to the lack of a bed. We provide mattresses and bed frames brand new at no cost to the recipients, including cribs if needed!

May is National Foster Care Awareness Month! Foster care affects over 600,000 children in the US each year, and 23,000 of those children age out at 18 without a forever family. At Chair-ity, we make sure these young adults get a fresh start by furnishing their first home as they embark on independent living. The young adults we meet are some of the hardest working, resilient, optimistic people we've ever met, and we are so proud of them and all they have accomplished! We celebrate them every day, and we encourage you to celebrate and support them during this month of awareness too. Show your support by making a donation today; no amount is too small to make a difference! https://www.chair-ity.org/monetary-donation

The average cost of furnishing a 1 bedroom apartment in 2024 is ~$4,000. For a newly independent young adult aging out of foster care, this financial responsibility can become the difference between a bed or groceries. Chair-ity aims to lessen this burden and give them a better start, improving their chances of success and breaking the foster care cycle.
Chair-ity is about much more than just upcycling furniture. It's about turning houses into homes. Our before and afters speak for themselves!
If you have gently used furniture you'd like to give a second life, you can make a huge difference in someone's quality of life by donating to Chair-ity. Every item we receive goes directly to young adults aging out of foster care and beginning independent living, so you can rest assured that your furniture is being put to good use. We'll even pick it up for you! Submit your furniture for donation here: https://www.chair-ity.org/donate-furniture
