One of the best Hypoallergenic Breeds is the Schipperke. One reason is hardly any grooming. Second reason is they are very smart. Third reason is the nice size of 10-19 pounds. Fourth is they are adorable. Enough?

This is baby Zorro, son of Rhinestone Cowboy, who will start showing in spring of 2020. His parents are AKC Champions. His coat is luxurious and dark black. He is full of himself and knows he is special. His mother is Champion Rock N Rhinestone Tickle My Fancy simply called "Pinkie". With two beautiful parents of wonderful temperament and charm, I expect nothing less of Zorro. Rock N Rhinestone Zorro.

One of the best dogs of the hypoallergenic breeds is the Schipperke. The coat is so care free, requiring no regular trimming and little combing or brushing. The characteristic coat pattern is natural for this breed. The coat, usually a shiny black color is combined of two types of hair like a mink. The coat, called a double coat, is of a softer wispy down fur combined with the guard hairs that have a nice sheen and are stiffer, giving a stand out beautiful coat. They seem to shake off water and enjoy swimming without the typical doggie odor or smell when they do get wet.. They are the ducks of the dog world. The hypoallergenic Schipperke's coat should always look dapper and appealing.Since this characteristic coat pattern of the Schipperke is natural and not simply cut into the dog as many other breeds are it is considered a "wash and wear" breed. Simply put it is very easy to care for and upkeep this hypoallergenic coat. A Schipperke pet at home can have the same beautiful coat seen at the dog shows since it is not man made but the natural coat of the Schipperke. The coat is short on the muzzle and face and ears along with being shorter on the legs. The coat is thicker and more of a stand out main around the neck and described as culottes on the hind legs. Usually black with dark questioning almond shaped eyes this breed looks inquisitive.
This breed is devoted to it's own human owner or family. This makes for a great guard dog to alert you of any intruders and deeply devoted to the family. Always alert yet not lending to become a yappy barker.
Some of this breed are naturally born with a stub tail or no tail. Most are docked or removed at a few days old. Schipperkes in Europe usually have a natural tail and not docked unless born that way. The tailless silhouette gives this breed a very characteristic silhouette which it is known for.
The breed was originally in Belgium and known for riding on the gondolas of men selling their wares from boats. He is a good protector of his owner's belongings and a great dog near water since they shake off water and don't have the traditional wet dog smell of other breeds. They were used on barges at ratters. They love to chase squirrels, rats or any four legged intruders.
One nice thing about a pet Schipperke is how he reflects what the owner is doing. He may love to lay on the couch with you while you watch tv and be ready to jump up and go for a run or walk with you at any moment. If you wish to spend a quiet day, he is willing to hang out with his beloved owner. He is also ready to go out for adventure at any time too.
The size of the hypoallergenic Schipperke is usually 11-20 pounds. This is a nice size to share a couch with or sit in your lap or travel with. If a Schipperke is taken out occasionally as a young puppy under a year old and after he has had his puppy shots, he should love going in the car. Even simple errands are a fun time making a great companion for his human.
The breed has had a little bit of new interest in the recent years as people are looking for hypoallergenic breeds of dogs and most hypoallergenic breeds have coats that either require a great deal of combing or brushing and most trimming along with expensive grooming. The schipperke has such a beautiful natural coat only needing a rare brushing or occasional bath. The Schipperke coat does not mat.
There are other colors of the breed but the Schipperke Club of America describes it as a black dog therefore most are bred to be black. The original Club or Schipperkes in Belgium, where the dog originated, said it was a black dog. It can be a cream or wheat, silver, brown or one color of coat that has a range of browns blended. Typically it is a shiny dark black dog.
When they are babies they resemble baby bears then as they grow up they look more like black foxes without tails.
My Schipperkes are Rock N Schipperkes in Oklahoma. I love them and are proud of my dogs. My best companion is my Silver Grand Champion Shadycreeks Rock N Rhinestone Cowboy. Who loves to show and loves to just hang out with me. We are working on getting the Gold Grand Championship next. I have his little son Rock N Rhinestone Zorro. I have enjoyed Schipperkes for over 20 years. I love them, train them, show them, live with them and breed them.
