More than 600 families picked up fresh produce and shelf-stable food today at Via Care 507. Many thanks go out to our partner , and all their donors, for providing food for the community of East LA! Thanks to everyone who came out today to lend a hand! We had a full team of Via Care staff and volunteers loading up boxes for community members. Via Care hosts this foodbank on the second of each month. Just one example of how our community health center provides resources and services to our community.

Soon after THIS FREE EVENT A COLLEAGUE OF MINE ASKED ME WHY I WASTED SO MUCH TIME AND MONEY ON THESE GIVEAWAYS. … the question itself was insulting.
It’s also disappointing to realize how disconnected a representative can be from the community.
In a 93% Latino populated city, with over 82% renting, with most working class residents considered essential workers. 29% living below the poverty lines. A representative of this city found it “a waste” to give back?!
As a mother, parent, provider, I understand the importance of helping families thrive. That is why I advocate on the Dias and I am boots on the ground as well. But, sometimes helping is as simple as providing essentials.
If I had listened to the disconnected advice of my colleague, I wouldn’t have hosted any other event after this and would not have touched the lives of many. Remember to always stay true to who you are and make decisions that make God smile. ❤️

Our region has been devastated by COVID-19. In bell gardens my residents are made up of hard working groups, they work in grocery stores across the county, they are your Uber drivers and your favorite Starbucks baristas. They’re the men and women who deliver your amazon packages and the ones who cook and packed your food. They are the essential workers who have been forgotten, and today, for the first time since the pandemic began, the White House recognizes our region. It's a good day. Thank you to my neighboring colleagues for their passion and leadership. Special thanks to Councilwoman Denise Diaz who made this possible.

As the only mother on the city I understand the importance of providing essentials to our families.
Understanding, acknowledging and delivering. That’s what I’ve always been about, that is why I volunteer on mornings to give back to my neighbors. That is why I also host my own personal Diaper & wipes giveaways. Because being a parent is hard and we can all use a little help.

Side note: Thank you to Mayor Blanca Pacheco from Downey for joining me early in the morning and helping our BG residents.

Out of all my acts of service, nothing and I mean nothing beats giving kids smiles... So I put on my Santa hat and drove through the streets of BG giving out toys.
