Chiseled Granite Compared to Fractured Ledge...

Stone Strong Systems Retaining Walls are a sought-after solution for commercial and residential projects. The most popular pattern is the Chiseled Granite pattern which is used for many local municipalities, MTA and DOT applications.
Growing in popularity, the Fractured Ledge pattern has been created from authentic fractured ledge stone. It is a pattern that provides natural relief for projects and will blend in with any landscape.
The blocks we have are fully engineered and can build walls up to 30 feet in height. Used creatively they can be used in curved patterns to wind through terrain features you are seeking to conquer.

Stone Strong Systems Retaining Walls enable project owners to landscape and contour projects adding additional usable space by conquering hills, rock outcroppings, and wet areas. This can add profit to your project.

Stone Strong Systems helps provide these solutions. The attached project photos show the use of Stone Strong in the Fractured Ledge Pattern to terrace a hillside allowing for the construction of roads to access remote portions of a property.
Our blocks are fully engineered and can build walls up to 30 feet tall. They can be used creatively in curved patterns to wind through terrain features you seek to conquer.

LHV Precast continues to invest in our plant and people. October saw the acquisition and installation of our new 24 ‘ wide by 72’ long (1728 sq ft) flat casting table. The table was built in four 12 ft x 36 ft sections with a surface of 3/8th inch steel plates. The table also includes a 12-inch-deep bolt-down rail kit.

The table was manufactured by Afinitas of Columbus, Ohio. LHV Precast is committed to American-made forms and casting equipment. Kyle Hignet of Afintas was an instrumental part of our design and acquisition. This is our third purchase from Afinitas in 2023. Both companies are proud members of NPCA.

The new table enables LHV Precast to complete more complex designs requiring a measured level flat casting surface. The new table allows us to expand our tunnel, bridge, bridge deck & beam, headwall, and wingwall products bringing clean lines and level surfaces to these signature projects.

The table is an added feature to our new manufacturing facility constructed in 2021. There is a similar casting table measuring 12 ft x 50 ft (600 sq ft) in the senior building. The casting table was assembled and installed by the building fabrication team led by Kyle Willis.

LHV Precast is committed to providing our people with the best tools and training. As our people grow so does LHV Precast. We are creative application specialists.

Continuing progress...

Here are more photos provided by Bob Willis of LHV PRECAST INC. The photos were taken looking downstream from each of the bridges crossing into the Andes School.

These highlight the Tennessee Foothill patterned Stone Strong blocks set along the sides of the brook between the bus and pedestrian bridges. More of the caps are in place as compared to last week.

Lefever Excavating continues to do an excellent job of excavating and setting the blocks and bridge deck slabs. LHV Precast has manufactured the Stone Strong Retaining wall blocks and the bridge deck slabs.

Victor Bramble Jr. Bramble of LHV PRECAST INC performed LHV Precast's layout of the project.

The project is being funded by the Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District in partnership with the Catskill Watershed Corporation.

Rehabilitation of The Roseville Tunnel

Project Number: 2210701
Project Owner: New Jersey Transit Corporation
General Contractor: Schiavone Construction Co., 150 Meadowlands Parkway, Secaucus, NJ 07094
Project Engineer: Lewis O Morgan, PE, of Jacobs Engineering
Precast Engineer: Tamer Osman, PE, DSPC Engineers of Endwell, NY

Precast Design and Estimate: Robert Willis of LHV Precast Inc
Project Description:

The rehabilitation of The Roseville Tunnel by New Jersey Transit will upgrade a crucial link in the Lackawanna Cut-off restoring passenger rail service from Port Morris to a new station in Andover and ultimately to Scranton, PA. The goal of NJ Transit is to restore passenger train service to this corridor.

The rail line was originally built between 1908 and 1911 by the Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad to speed service between Hoboken, NJ, and Buffalo, NY. Originally designed for freight service, the line was considered an engineering marvel in its day with deep cuts and tail fills and two large viaducts which allowed a direct line through New Jersey’s mountainous northwest region.

(Wikipedia)

LHV Precast manufactured two precast headwalls 20 feet long, 13’ high, and 2 ‘ thick with a 9’- 8” half-round opening. These are supported by 25’ long precast concrete footings. The culvert is a total of 45 feet long and is designed to support the trains above it. Schiavone Construction will cast in the final arch ultimately building a hybrid culvert. The culvert's appearance will match the original keeping its historical identity. The original design was engineered by Lewis O Morgan, PE, Director of Rail Services for Jacobs Engineering of Sparta, NJ.

Precast Engineering was performed by Tamer Osman PE of Delta Engineering of
Endwell, NY.

The project construction was awarded to Schiavone Construction Co. of Secaucus
in May of 2022.

Precast project estimation was completed by Robert Willis of LHV Precast, Inc. New Jersey Transit is the nation's largest statewide public transportation system providing more than 925,000-weekday trips on 253 bus routes, three light rail lines, 12 commuter rail lines, and through Access Link paratransit service. It is the third largest transit system in the country with 166 rail stations, 62 light rail stations, and more than 19,000 bus stops linking major points in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia.

Project Description:
The project, led by Project Manager Rich France, entailed the excavation and construction to increase the clearance of the Cherry Valley Avenue Bridge for the Long Island Railroad in Garden City. Railroad Construction Co. Inc. over the course of the weekend of April 1st removed the existing bridge, abutments, and lagging wall structure and replaced them with new abutments, approach slabs, and lagging and soldier pile walls. The project started on Friday evening after rush hour and continued through Sunday evening enabling the Monday morning rush hour to proceed without interruption. The goal of the project was to increase the height of the bridge to allow trucks to pass through the areas without concern for the height of the bridge. The original bridge had a clearance of 10’-9”. This project increased the clearance to 14”-2”.

Once the bridge was removed intact the final work began with the installation of the precast concrete components. Once this was completed, they could move the bridge back into place and prepare it for service.

LHV Precast Inc. manufactured 325 square feet of lagging wall panels, soldier pile walls, and the east and west end bridge abutments and seats at our plant in Kingston, NY. The LHV team consisted of Robert Willis and Joseph Murphy. Trucking was provided by Borwegen Trucking throughout the week prior to enable Railroad Construction to stage material in advance of the ex*****on to ensure the safety and speed of construction and smooth transition to ensure rail service was restored well in advance of the Monday rush hour.

The use of precast components, manufactured in a controlled and monitored environment ensure the structures meet the specification of the engineers to ensure the safety of the trains and commuters on a daily basis.
