HELP us stop Uranium mining in our area! We need to get the word out that the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will be having a meeting on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 7 pm at the Goliad Auditorium at the fairground on Hwy 183 to discuss the new URANIUM mining lease in north Goliad county. It will affect the ground water, ponds and rivers in not just Goliad county but also Dewitt and Victoria counties as well. Once distributed these mines release radioactive isotopes, arsenic and radon gas into the water supply contaminating humans, livestock and wildlife. The more people we can get to show up to this meeting to voice their concerns the better. Please contact your state representative and senators to voice your opinions and/or objections. You can also use the form I have posted to send your concerns to the TCEQ. Even if you aren’t directly impacted by this consider getting the word out and contacting your state officials because this will still get into your food supply.
Weaving a few dishcloths this evening.
We are over run with eggs from our free range hens. If anyone is interested we are selling them for $5 a dozen. We are located off of 119 near 183 close to Weesatche, Tx.
We’ve got Seminole Pumpkins coming out of our ears. Going to get in the garden this evening and pick all the ripe ones. This is my first year growing them. So far I haven’t been disappointed. They are so good. Tastes a lot like butternut squash and are supposed to last for a year. Great for long term storage. And if you are like me and planning for the worste (zombie apocalypse) hoping for the best these are a great food to have in your arsenal. If you’ve grown them let me know what you do with them.
It’s crazy hot but the garden is still producing. I think Scout has the right idea. I have been desperate enough for relief that I have considered taking a dip in the trough too.
Edit: These two steers have been sold, but we have one more available and ready for a butcher date.
Knockaway Farms has 1 1/2 steers available. Will be ready in about a week after hanging for 14+ days. Had a customer back out. We are located near Goliad tx. but can meet up. The hanging weight is 447lbs. Message if interested.
Finally got around to canning salsa yesterday. It is always so rewarding when it is done.
We have three steers that will be ready for the butcher around June or July. They are grass fed and grain finished dexters. Our previous steers had a hanging weight of about 300 pounds and dressed out to about 200 pounds of beef which will easily fit in a stand up freezer. If interested please feel free to message us for further information.
It has been an exciting calving season. We had two adorable heifers born and we couldn’t be more thrilled.
Hibiscus Mint has a slightly tart flavor that blends well with the floral notes from the lavender. All ingredients are organic and hand blended. 3 oz bag is $14.50. Message me for pick up or shipping.
Breakfast time for Rose.
At Knockaway Farm we raise grass fed and finished Dexter beef. Dexter beef is naturally tender with that delicious savory beef flavor the way beef should taste even on 100% grass. Because our cows are a smaller breed the cuts will be a little smaller than store-bought meat. However you won’t be sacrificing anything. Grass fed Dexter is naturally high in CLAs, omega 3, omega 6, and omega 9s as well as denser so that it takes less to get full. We are taking orders on half of a steer, and it should be ready to pick up from the butcher by July 4th. We require $160 non-refundable deposit due at the time the order is made, and $6.75 per pound based on hanging weight do three days before pick up. Estimated hanging weight on half a steer is 165 pounds. The meat will be vacuum sealed and packaged in boxes.
We’ve been a little busy around the farm. We had two calves born after Eve. A little bull calf we named Jefe and another heifer Emma named Rose. Jefe is doing great with his mom Skye and is enjoying playing with Eve. We had to start bottle feeding Rose because she wasn’t getting any milk from her mom. It isn’t what we would prefer, but at least she is alive and happy.
Eve and mom Evonne are doing great. Even though Evonne is a first time mom she did an amazing job. We couldn’t be happier.
Today was a very exciting day. We welcomed our first calf of the year this morning. Say hello to Eve. Isn’t she too cute.
Free range eggs available. $4/doz
Welcome to Knockaway Farm. We are a small farm/homestead that is just getting started , but we are working towards providing nutritionally dense food like our grandparents enjoyed. We raise grass fed, registered Dexter cattle and a small flock of free range chickens. Our goal is to be able to sell our farm products to our neighbors and to expand our farm ventures to other livestock. We also sell hand blended herbal teas.
