The REAL story on County Council’s denial of the 12.75 Millage request as reported by the P*e Dee Post and Courier’s, Tyler Fedor. More to come…

On Monday, June 19, 2023, Sumter County Council and Sumter School Board Trustees continued discussion of the Sumter County School District’s 2023-2024 budget and 12.75 millage increase.
After reviewing projected revenue and expenses, in addition to fund balance requirements and recommendations, it is abundantly clear that to compete with surrounding school districts, retain and recruit quality teachers and support staff, and move Sumter forward, the District’s outlined budget and millage increase must be funded.
Far too long we have kicked the can down the street and progress has been stifled at best. Our schools are not only short staffed, but facilities are also in disrepair and in need of updating to take full advantage of 21st century technology and resources to prepare students for the workplace.
“One Sumter” is an empty slogan until we make basic services like education a priority.
It’s time to turn our attention away from amphitheaters, tennis courts, bike trails and the like and take care of real infrastructure deficits that will draw industry and businesses that deliver quality careers with fringe benefits including retirement, health and savings plans for individuals and families, and most importantly livable salaries for our workforce.
Please share this information with your friends and family. Ask each of them to contact their respective council members to urge them to support this important and necessary initiative.
EVERYONE must do their part to make Sumter STRONG.
June 19, 2023, meeting of Sumter County Council and Sumter School District Sumter County Council and the Sumter School District Board of Trustees held a joint meeting on June 19, 2023, in Sumter, South Carolina.
A Proclamation designating Sunday, June 18, 2023 as Deacon Roosevelt Harris Day was presented during the morning worship service at the Community Church of Praise located at 4815 Patriot Parkway. Apostle Dorothy Maple is the church’s Pastor.
Deacon Roosevelt Harris is a faithful leader committed to spreading God’s word. Deacon Harris serves as Chairman of the Deacon’s ministry.
It was an uplifting to spend this Father's Day with the Community Church of Praise family. The demonstration of love throughout the worship service was a memorable experience. The biggest take away, stated so simply by Pastor Dorothy Maple, "Love is an action word", has profound effects when enacted.

Sumter County Council District One
In early October, I received a call from several Sumter County Council District One community leaders urging me to seek the office of County Councilman for District One. They were very persuasive in their presentation to me for leadership change.
As you may know, I have been actively involved in creating change in my community. Through working with community leaders and various community organizations, I feel we have made some progress, but our work is far from over.
After prayerful consideration and family discussions, I decided to accept the challenge before me. On March 16, 2020 I filed my candidacy as a Democrat for Sumter County Council District One which includes: Rembert, Horatio, Hillcrest, Thomas Sumter, Cherryvale, Delaine, St. Paul and Manchester Forest.
My plan is to bring critical community issues to the forefront and implement common sense ideas straight from the citizens of Sumter County Council District One.
