The loss of last night‘s races across the state is not a loss for the Democratic party, but rather the people of Iowa.

Public education will not be fully funded, teachers will continue to be disparaged, farmers/landowners will see the use of eminent domain with no recourse, women will lose their right to make their own health care decisions and LBGTQ rights will be further degraded.

I have to give credit to the republican propaganda machine. Never since world war 2 have we seen so much hate, misinformation and fear mongering pushed out by such a large group of individuals.

Unfortunately, the Democratic high road was not able to overcome people voting against their own self interests.

To all those who turned out to vote for public education and women, thank you. Your support, honesty and passion has been amazing and an inspiration. 💙💙

Just a regular girl, reminding you that early voting ends today at the Auditor's office!

Tomorrow vote at your poling location. If had originally requested an absentee ballot, you can bring that in and exchange it for a regular ballot.💙💙💙

Iowa set to lose millions in rental assistance to other states 06/11/2022

How is it acceptable to Iowa voters to allow the current administration to give back $89 million dollars for housing assistance? This is at a time that homelessness is at a high?

Despicable and unacceptable!

Iowa set to lose millions in rental assistance to other states Polk County officials told the Register that the state doesn't plan to ask for the money to be reallocated.

It is so important that all absentee ballots are returned properly!! As you know, the past legislators have made it very difficult for some folks to vote. Here are the rules for your absentee ballot.

This election is important on so many levels, protection of personal property rights, protection of health care rights, protection of labor and education. Pleae make sure you vote!!

04/11/2022

Please get out and vote for the candidates who truly value all o f your rights. Education, health care, livable wages, affordable child care and labor rights.

November Letter

Dear Editor

With November 8th right around the corner, we will all be glad that the yard signs and political ads will go away. I understand that it is exhausting for the voting public to see the negativity and vitriol in our mail boxes and on ads every time you turn around.

So instead let’s look at the positives in our community.

The first positive is the people. I know that sounds like a cliché but it is so true. In every community there will always be a group of negative nellies that berate every effort. But what I have seen is a larger group of voices overcome those voices and work together to make us better all over Lee County. Small communities celebrating their heritages, larger communities tackling projects. Let us all hope that the positive voices continue to work to overcome negative.

The second is the vision of Lee County to realize we cannot completely recreate what we were, but rather we can redefine the future. There are a lot of challenges we need to overcome: ensuring Keokuk has emergency care access, attracting people to live and work in our communities and rebuilding our housing stock to name a few. I have faith that the leaders in our communities can and will work together to not only overcome these challenges but create a thriving environment. They will need your support. So when the call comes to roll up your sleeves, please do so.

Finally, look at our beautiful corner of the country. We have rolling fields of corn and beans that provide for so many, we have the Mississippi River with its own majestic beauty and we have history that dates back hundreds of years. This is worth so much and we need to preserve and promote our Lee County.

If you have not yet been to the polls, I encourage you to make the choices on the ballot that reflect positivity, growth, truth and partnerships. Our community and country cannot bear more hate, misinformation and violence. My friends, neighbors and fellow Iowans, I ask for your vote on November 8th .

Rebecca Bowker
Candidate HD 100

We rocked the donations for the domestic violence intervention program today. It is an unfortunate reality that programs such as this have to exist, but they do.

Thank you Lee County shoppers for your generous donations 💙💙

Don’t forget! Today is the day to stop by Fareway in Fort Madison from 1 to 3 to collect donations for the Domestic Violence Prevention Program. They need items like household supplies, women’s hygiene products, gas cards, and laundry supplies to just a name a few things. Incidents of domestic violence have risen locally and nationally. Let’s take a few minutes to do what we can support those who are victims and who are working hard to make our communities safer from violence.

October Letter to the Editor

The voters have a big decision to make this year!

Iowa is faced with choosing between fear mongering and misinformation or choosing the candidates that respect the voters enough to not use these these schemes. I have chosen to run my campaign solely on the issues that are important to Southeast Iowa.

Voting rights have been reduced significantly over the last several years. The amount of time to vote early has been cut in half and restrictions on casting your ballot by mail have hampered the ability to vote. Do we want to see this basic democratic right continue to be stripped away?

Public education has not been funded at a rate that will allow our schools to recruit and retain educators. The last legislative session demonstrated the lack of respect for our teachers by wanting to place cameras in classrooms, penalizing librarians and publishing curriculum. Public education provides for all students, of all abilities and needs to be respected and funded.

Private schools provide a valuable asset to every community. It gives parents a choice and I sincerely hope private schools continue to provide that choice to parents.

A woman needs to have the ability to make critical health care decisions about her own body. These decisions should be between her, her doctor, her partner and her faith. It is not the right of the governmental bodies to take those decisions away.

The Iowa Utility Board, who has authority to grant eminent domain to private companies, was appointed by Governor Reynold’s and Brandstad. Carbon capture pipelines have donated thousands of dollars to republican campaigns. We need to ensure that we protect the rights and interests of landowners.

I want to see an Iowa that can reach across the aisle and work to restore us to our Iowa rightful place of being first in the nation in education. I want to see an Iowa that younger generations want to come home to because we have retained their right to their own bodies and believe in equal rights for all people regardless of color, sexual orientation or belief systems. I want to see an Iowa make forward progress on rural health care initiative to keep our families healthy.

Please make sure you vote on November 8th.

I want to hear what is motivating you to vote in the mid-terms???
Put the reason you have or will vote in the comments!

30/10/2022

Primary investors in the carbon capture pipeline business have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to republican candidates over the last several years. The whole purpose is to literally and figuratively “cash in” on those donations.

The Iowa Utility Board was appointed by both Brandstad and Reynolds. I know Iowans can connect the dots.

If you have concerns about this winter‘s heating costs - financial heating assistance is available to income-eligible utility customers through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The annual application period runs from November 1, 2022, through April 30, 2023. Homes with elderly residents 60 years of age or older, disabled residents, and those in crisis of immediate utility disconnection, may apply now.

For assistance, utility customers should contact their local community action agency (319-372-4471 or 319-524-6383) and notify their utility company. Customers who have concerns about their utility company or service may also file a complaint about their utility by contacting the IUB Customer Service staff at 877.565.4450
