One dead, 17 hurt after Hamilton Heights fire leaves residents hanging out windows 24/02/2024

New Windsor Resident and FDNY Firefighter Matt Nolan was a critical part of the team that responded to a Manhattan fire yesterday. While one life was lost, Matt and the FDNY quickly and skillfully saved many more lives in a horrible structure fire. Thank you Matt, the FDNY, and all first responders for all you do each day. I would like to pass along New Windsor’s well wishes to everyone affected by this fire for a speedy recovery.

One dead, 17 hurt after Hamilton Heights fire leaves residents hanging out windows At least one person died and 17 people were hurt in a raging fire that tore through an Upper Manhattan apartment building, fire officials said, leaving some residents trapped in their homes, clinging to windows as they tried to escape the thick smoke and call for help.

Thirty eight years ago today, the Vails Gate Fire Department lost a brother in the line of duty while attempting to rescue a patron of a restaurant. Sean P. McGuire made the ultimate sacrifice on February 14, 1986. Since that fateful day, the men and women of the Vails Gate Fire Company have had a wreath laying ceremony each year in memory of Sean. Wreaths are laid at Calvary Cemetery, the memorial at New Windsor Town Hall constructed in his memory, and at the intersection of Route 32 and Willow Lane, where his life was lost. May we never forget!

I was honored to attend a memorial service at Woodlawn Cemetery for Officer William Robinson who gave his life in the line of duty for the City of Newburgh Police Department fifty years ago today. We will always remember the first responders who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Town of New Windsor is responsible for the operation and perpetual care of Woodlawn Cemetery. I am proud of the quality of care provided for the final resting site of Officer Robinson and for all those resting there.

I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Halloween! I hope all of our residents have a great time trick or treating safely around town tonight!

This will be the first Halloween in 34 years I will not have to work and will be handing out candy at home with my family.

As a police officer working every Halloween, while on patrol I would hand out candy to children as they trick or treated. This year I will deeply miss seeing the happy looks on the kids faces as I pulled up in my police car, gave them a treat, and in the process strengthened police and community relations. Showing children could trust that police officers and all emergency responders are always there for them, whether it be on a happy time like Halloween or in their time of need meant so much to me.
