After months of waiting for the new custom made skylights to arrive from Velux. We were able to get this one done in 2 days!

Sadly the roof was overdue and we replaced almost half of the plywood on the roof due to mold.

Fun times in Haverhill today with my father in law and the boys! 2 layer rip on the siding and a single layer rip on the roofing! Everything is taped, reinsulated and new Azek trim is on! Time for some windows!

Never fails we always find rot!

This is a very special project for me as it’s my Father and Sister In-law’s house. Stay tuned for a complete rebuild! Windows, doors, roof and siding! Along with a new front porch!

Today is brought to by the letter R and I for rot and ISO board! My favorite was the rubber glued to the siding and the collection of helicopters!

Main house is complete in my home town of Plaistow NH! Now onto the Gambrel! If you look closely at the picture, you’ll see where the some of the shingles started to slide out this happens for two reasons. First, it was an IKO shingle. IKO shingles are known to be more of a builder grade. They are more cost-effective if you’re looking for a short term. And second, there’s no reinforcement where the shingle joins so overtime the weight of the shingles pull down on the nails.

The second biggest reason this happens is because the original installer did not follow manufacturer specifications! Every single shingle on the sides of the steep slope Gambrell or mansard are supposed to be adhered to one another with additional adhesive!

Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is looking!

If you are getting your roof done and it has a stove vent fl**ge, it too should get replaced! All the roofing components have a similar life expectancy.

Here this B Vent is already forming rust and will eventually just be holes that make it more likely for water to intrude.

This roof was an older Iko Weatherwood shingle with 15 pound paper. Replacing it today with Owens Corning with new ice and water shield and synthetic paper!
