A Few Important Updates and Reminders for Durham Pediatrics Patients/Families

Sunday Hours

We are open on Sunday morning for telehealth visits only from 8:30 am to 10:15 am. There are no in-office visits on Sunday. We are still open for acute patient visits on Saturday morning from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. We understand that not being open on Sunday is an inconvenience. We hope that this will be short-term.

Flu and COVID-19 Vaccines

We are offering flu vaccines (any age patient) and COVID-19 vaccines (age 12 and above) to our patients as part of well child visits, physicals and sick visits. Due to limited resources we are unable to vaccinate parents/guardians, and we will have fewer extended hour flu vaccine options this flu season. We encourage you to use other community resources (pharmacies, etc.) whenever possible.

Out-of-State Telehealth

We are no longer able to perform telehealth visits with our patients who are out-of-state. If you have health concerns that need to be addressed, you will have to come to clinic. If you have moved to a permanent residence outside of North Carolina, it is recommended that you establish care with a provider in your area. We are happy to work with you to get your medical records to new providers as needed. If you need to update your address, you can do so in your MyChart profile or when you visit for an appointment.

MyChart Messages

We wanted to send a friendly reminder that MyChart messages are for non-urgent concerns only and it may take up to 3 business days for you to get a response. These messages are not checked on holidays or weekends. If you have an urgent health concern, please call the clinic and speak with a triage nurse so that we can ensure that you get timely and appropriate care. While we are happy to answer non-urgent questions via MyChart, this is not the best way for us to address new health concerns as these will often require a video or office visit.

07/10/2021

Durham Pediatrics has decided to give back to those who need our support this holiday season! We're making care packages to send to our men and women currently serving to uplift their spirts and to let them know they are not forgotten. Those who serve(d), have mentioned that letters from the community mean the most to them during the holidays. We will place a drop box at the entrance of our North Duke Street location if you or your children would like to contribute. Collections will start November 1st and go through December 3rd for those who are interested. Thank you and continue to be well!

Durham Pediatrics’ Response to the COVID19 Pandemic

We at Durham Pediatrics are doing all that we can to keep our patients and staff safe and healthy during this very challenging time. We urge you to follow the CDC guidelines: stay home; if you must go out, observe social distancing, wash your hands, and teach your kids to do the same.

Both of our clinics are open, but we are controlling the type of visits allowed, restricting the number of visitors who accompany patients, and screening both children and parents for illness prior to allowing access beyond check-in.

No siblings will be permitted. We ask that you do not bring strollers into the clinic. Car seats/infant carriers will be allowed. If your child has any of these symptoms, s/he may be referred to the Duke Health COVID-19 hotline (919) 385-0429, or the visit will be rescheduled in the afternoon, after 2pm, or at a later date.

If your child has a chronic health problem that needs immediate evaluation, please call the triage nurse line in our office. We will also consider routine follow-up appointments for medication checks in children who are otherwise without signs of infection during this time; please contact the triage nurse or your provider to discuss this option.

We have already had some changes to yesterday's post -- please read carefully. We will not have our 5-6 pm acute visit hour Monday-Thursday or Sunday hours for the time being:

We ask your cooperation in keeping our staff and all of our patients as safe as we are able. The following information details our office operation for the foreseeable future:

Duke Street Office:

It is extremely important that young children continue to receive their immunizations on time, because the infections prevented by routine immunizations continue to circulate along with the coronavirus. Therefore we are still scheduling routine well child care appointments for all children up to and including the age of three years. These appointments, however, are scheduled only during the mornings at the Duke Street office. We will also consider scheduling routine follow-up appointments for medication checks in children who are otherwise without signs of infection; please contact the triage nurse or your provider to discuss this option.

Sick visits for acute illness (not for chronic problems) will be scheduled for the afternoons at the Duke Street office. Until further notice, we are no longer offering our late 5-6 pm sick visit appointments. We suggest you defer the evaluation of chronic problems until the CDC recommendations regarding staying home have been relaxed. If you are not sure whether a problem can wait to be evaluated, please call the nurse triage line in our office.

Highgate Office:

We are seeing ONLY well child visits (again, through age 3 years) during both mornings and afternoons at the Highgate Office. All newborns will for the time being be seen only at the Highgate Office as well.

Weekend hours:

We will continue to offer appointments for acute illness at the Duke Street office on Saturday; for now, we have suspended our Sunday hours. You must call ahead for an appointment; these are NOT walk-in hours.

Telephone visits:

We are also offering telephone visits for patients when the clinical situation is appropriate. For example, some medication visits may lend themselves to this approach. Please contact the triage nurse or your child’s provider to discuss this option. These appointments will be billed to your insurance company.

Nurse Triage:

We continue to have 24/7 coverage by our nursing team.

Again, we urge all of you to follow all CDC guidelines. When you shelter in place, you protect not only your family but the families of all of us. Be safe, be well.
