When it comes to getting a little extra money for your honeymoon fund, the dollar dance is hard to beat. Yes, you may dance with people that you barely know or have little to no desire to dance with, but hey, you're getting extra money, right?!?!?!

While the dollar dance works, there are several alternatives to help avoid those possibly awkward encounters. The most popular alternatives are doing a 50/50 half pot, bingo, and my personal favorite - the Cake Smash Competition.

The Cake Smash Competition is simply that. A competition to see who gets to smash cake in the other persons face. Just acquire two containers that say your names on them, and place them on the cake table. Throughout the cocktail hour and dinner portion of the evening, your guests will place money in the jar of the corresponding person that they want to win. By the time the cutting of the cake comes around, the person with the most money in their jar, gets to smash cake in the other persons face.

I know, I know, some of you are out there thinking "but I don't want to lose and have cake smashed in my face!" - I can tell you that I have not once seen those individuals loose this competition 😉😉.

While this may not be for everybody, this is just one of the many ways that I can help make your special day perfectly suited for you!

Let's talk first dances!

Traditionally, the first dance comes after dinner right around the time of the cutting of the cake and toasts. This works out great because it allows you to come right in, sit down, and relax while enjoying some much needed food. While this traditionally works, there is another way to go about it.
Dancing directly after introductions.

Doing your formal dances as soon as you walk in allows:

~ you to not worry about getting food on your clothes during dinner or even during the cutting of the cake

~ the chance to fully relax sooner and change clothes if needed

~ family members and friends that may need to leave early get to see you dancing in all your glory

While this may not be for everybody, this is just one of the many ways that I can make your day exactly how you imagined it!

A hot topic lately has been whether or not you need a DJ or some form of entertainment for your wedding day. Some argue that all a DJ does is push buttons and make announcements. While that may appear to be true, I can tell you that there is quite a bit more that goes into being a wedding DJ.

Here are a few things that an experienced DJ does at each event:

~ We often act as a "day of" coordinator working with officiants, photographers, caterers, and literally anyone else involved.

~We read the room and create experiences that turn into lifetime memories.

~ When things aren't going as planned, we act as the middle man to keep the stress at a minimum.

Just like how fast food restaurants can quench a hunger, they aren't on the same level as their top tier counterparts. Everything comes down to experience. As DJ Rachel puts it - The total package of a great DJ goes beyond "just music and a few announcements."

Great entertainment + fun experiences = everlasting memories.

We hear this constantly, and the short answer is yes - if it's a good request! A lot of times, guests have a better ear for music than many DJs give them credit for - there are many times we have someone come up and request a song that would go great immediately after the current song, in which case we'll throw it on if it enhances the dancefloor.⁠

Sometimes, though, the requests aren't so spectacular - just like there are songs that can enhance, there are others that might take away from the flow & energy of the evening. As Wedding DJs, our job is to cater to our couple's preferences (which may not always be lined up with individual guests' preferences) and keep the dancefloor packed all night! ⁠

Pro Tip - typing your song out on your phone like this is the best way to request a song at a wedding when the DJ is live-mixing and engaged in their craft 😎⁠

Sitting here on Black Friday looking over things for my upcoming shows, and I couldn't help but to stop and think about everybody I've encountered in this journey. From the couples that book me out so far in advance because they specifically want me to the last minute surprise birthday parties, I'm thankful for every single one of you. I've had my hand in everything from small intimate backyard get togethers all the way up to big production styled shows and concerts (even a fashion show time to time). Most don't understand what it takes to be a DJ. From understanding and tuning the equipment to controlling the crowd, there is a lot more involved than just pushing play on a Spotify playlist. It's because of you guys that allow me to continue to grow within this industry.

Specifically, a big thanks goes out to Jeremy at Professional DJ Service for taking me under his wing, Matt at Matt Kelly & Associates Mobile DJ Service and Corey at Superior Entertainment for allowing me to continuously bounce ideas off of, Shane at
Seniour Events Wedding DJ Company and Ray at Sonusdj Evansville Indiana. for networking opportunities, and mostly, I'd like to think my dad Billy Glenn for taking me to shows and teaching me the trade ever since I was able to push a button.

What a weekend! The fun never stopped. Started out Friday evening at KlubHaus61 with Ridetech for their company holiday party in June. Then I had the pleasure of celebrating the Utterbacks marriage out at Scales Lake Park. And to round out the weekend, we had a blast at Bridal Market at The Square 2021 sponsored by AnnaLe's Twice Chosen Bridal Consignment.
