As we reach the end of another year there’s much to reflect on. Personally and professionally this was a year of trials and triumphs. Being a full time realtor in a shifting market definitely comes with a large platter of anxiety, curiosity, expectant hope, and some stinging misses. However, I have had another year where connecting my clients with the right buyer or home always was significantly more rewarding than nerve wracking.

I set the goal for myself this year of being willing to say no more often. My first couple years in business I was so terrified of not making it that I just said yes to every lead, every opportunity, every referral, every client, every listing. In 2023 I decided that wasn’t the rhythm I want for myself, my clients, or my loved ones.

As I look ahead to 2024 I know there is more to learn from my clients, my peers, and from the experience of being a realtor in an unpredictable economy. I am dedicated to not letting that be the theme of my interactions 😊. I intend fully to continue to advocate for my clients’ needs, even if it costs me a sale. I plan to continue providing a level of transparency and openness with my clients that may catch them (YOU!) off guard. Most importantly, I am committed to continually exchanging knowledge on all fronts when it comes to every stage of real estate transactions, because knowledge truly is power and I believe we all deserve to make informed decisions.

Thank you, as always, from the bottom of my heart to all of my clients, everyone that has shared my name even once, and my business partners who consistently remind me why I started out in this business. My life would not be the same without all of you who allow me to walk beside you during some of the most stressful moments of your lives.

This last week and a half have been some of the hardest since being in business. For the second time in my career I had a client switch agents in the middle of our process. I then had another offer rejected for a dear client that has been looking so hard and keeps being rejected. Commercial listing agents that are supremely unresponsive while my clients are just left waiting. Lastly, for the first time in my career, today I had to take a sign down from a listing that just isn’t moving. We did everything we could. Open houses, fresh flowers, price drops, you name it. It’s a unique situation but it still stays with me. What are you doing wrong? Why haven’t you met your obligations? Where did you drop the ball?

These assorted interactions have been swirling in my mind to the point of even questioning if it’s time to go back to a day job and real estate on the side until the market shifts further, but that’s not how I do business.

I have a number of sayings or mantras that I repeat often to my clients….

I don’t memorize houses, this is because I see so many that I’m always afraid I’ll get the details switched up. So I always tell them I’m happy to find any answers but I won’t have them memorized.

I talk often about flex space, finding room in any given space or home where as life flexes or changes, you have room to navigate those changes (thanks COVID!).

Or one of my all time faves, we’re gonna have to kiss a lot of frogs! There often comes a point in the home search process where buyers just want to throw the towel in. I try to remind them that it is a very stressful process, but that it’s always worth it in the end.

Today as I pulled my sign from behind my former listing it was easy to see an empty sign, a failed listing, a space where I fell short. I don’t believe, however, that I can tell my clients one thing and believe another. So today we had to kiss a frog, but in the end it is always worth it to keep pressing ahead.

On the other side of signs, business cards, and social media pages, there is me. This business didn’t start because the market was high and I knew I’d make money. I started this business because life has led me here. 3.5 years selling building materials, 7 years in banking, a short stint in construction, a passion for architecture, a background as a financial and housing counselor. None of this is an accident.

Today I pull a sign out of the ground where it wasn’t meant to be planted, but tomorrow the phone will ring again.

Thank you to all of my clients past, present, and future. Thank you to my clients that are patient with me as we navigate impossible listings or tough markets all while also trying to maintain our sanity 😜

There’s more work to be done. This year I have tried to find a better balance between being always available and honoring the need for breaks and recesses and hobbies so when I felt the frustration creeping in, I knew it was a day to go outside and the frustrations have birth to a reignited passion for the way I do business, the way I sell and show houses, and, most importantly for me, the way I connect with my clients to ensure we are finding a home that will meet their needs to the best of my ability.

Year 3(ish) is in full swing. The market is unique and ever changing but by golly I intend to adapt with it.

Today was one of those days where I was again reminded why I do what I do. 7 showings before 1 PM with clients that I have a great relationship with. Finally finding needles in the haystack of houses that don’t meet their needs. This afternoon, I had the honor of attending my clients’ closing, my first in Michigan City! I’d spilled ice cream on my shirt on the way and wasn’t feeling my best, but by the time all was said and done everyone in the closing room was laughing and having a blast which is NOT always the case. I love what I do and I love my clients even more!

Today I traded in my laptop bag for my hiking bag. When I woke today and realized I had no appointments on the calendar I decided it was a necessary shift. A little celebration of my first two listings of the year both pending in less than 5 days.

Personally, I’ve been in a strange season of life lately. Novels cut short, new stories being written, and tales remaining untold. Professionally, I’m in a season of…delayed prosperity. In any commission based work there is lots of work done and the rewards are often delayed. I’ve rapidly entered the season of having no days off this year, and I am incredibly grateful. However that doesn’t leave much space to breathe.

In a season of wading through thickets, I’m reminded to look for the buds of new life amongst what seem like all thorns.

I am someone that thrives being over caffeinated, overbooked, and over committed, yet life keeps reminding me that breaks are crucial. I entered into this work knowing that it would offer new flexibility, and less time off the clock. This is hard to remember during my slower months and easy to forget when I’m busy.

Days like today don’t boost my productivity, get me closer to my goals, or help me strategize new opportunities. It certainly doesn’t help me sell more houses, but I’m damn sure it makes me a better realtor.

In a season of unknown, shifting seasons, and full moons, here’s to wading through thickets- personally, professionally, and quite literally.

A lot has changed over the last two years, and not just my hair! I’ve moved away from being so worried about how I present myself as a realtor and I’ve tried to lean into making sure that I am showing up fully at all times.

As you can see, I still believe in buying “barefoot”. An idea I had as I started my business that home buying doesn’t need to be large and intimidating. Instead, I want it to be so comfortable that you feel like you’re at home on the couch barefoot binging your favorite show. After all, that is how you’ll spend most of your time at your new house!

On the heels of an incredibly successful year, I am thrilled to be starting 2023 off with wonderful clients, some new listings coming up, and lots of capacity for more clients in the year ahead.

It’s been too long!

I promise we are still here and working away. Even as the market changes business keeps pressing on. Lately I’ve just been plugging away as we head into a new season and a changing market. Sometimes that means doing a renovation project on an upcoming listing!

My family recently recently moved to the South Bend area and I’ve spent lots of time renovating our home and getting things settled.

During a busy season of life it can be hard to be as present in the virtual realm. Here’s to being better at that!

With 4 closings in the last week and a half, there was this little panic about if I was reaching the end of the busy season.

Thennnnn I showed about 20 houses last week. I was reminded wholeheartedly why I do what I do as I wrote 3 offers, a fourth in process, and 3 out of 3 were accepted so far.

Every transaction is different and every agent I work with is a little different than the last, but this weekend when I got a photo of my clients painting their new house with their daughter rolling around on their new hardwood floors in the background, I quickly forgot about any stresses my clients experienced getting there.

We are just past half way through the year, and I am on track to reach the goal my dear friend and mentor challenged me with last year when I quit my last office job. 🤓

It’s a tough market, but with some time, a decent emotional investment, and some patience, we are still connecting individuals and families with their dream homes 🏡

Late post! This was a crazy and wonderful weekend full of real estate, theater, and my loved ones.

Saturday between 8am and 3 pm I had 6 showings, for 5 different parties, between 3 counties and in two states 🙃🏡 busy days making it happen. As hectic and unpredictable as it can be, I love making sure that my clients are getting into the homes they want to see, even with little to no notice.

When people ask me where my office is, I should start pointing to the driveway 🛻
