Penn celebrates operation and benefits of largest solar power project in Pennsylvania | Penn Today Solar production has begun at the Great Cove I and II facilities in central Pennsylvania, the equivalent of powering 70% of the electricity demand from Penn’s academic campus and health system in the Philadelphia area.

This is a myth I most recently heard from a customer who spoke to a different solar company at a vendor event. I actually have a few customers that other solar brokers wouldn't meet with because their bills were too low. They're all happy with their solar!

Low usage means small systems and some companies just don't want that "hassle." To me, helping homeowners go solar is worth it whether is a little system or a big system.

Whether this myth comes from a misinformed rep or one trying to make up for limited roof space, the fact remains that residential solar production is NOT capped at 102%.

That said, oversizing a system is not always a good value proposition. However, in cases where a customer knows they'll be using more energy it's smart!

There are a lot of myths in the solar world. This is one we learned from a customer who'd met with another company and was told the Public Utility Commission dictates the 2.9% escalator on their lease.

The Facts? The PUC doesn't have any such regulations for lease/PPA escalation.

It's National Teacher's Day!

Before my career as a solar broker, I was a high school science teacher. I understand just how rewarding and challenging it is to be a teacher.

Today, I ask you to find your favorite teacher and tell them what they meant to you. I promise you, as they near the end of the year and their life descends further into chaos by the day, they'll be thrilled to hear from you!

In any career that involves meeting many new people, we hear a lot of opinions and stories. This one has come up a few times. We can't say for sure if it's a "rogue rep" or poor training, but the result is to spread the myth that it is not legal to own solar in Pennsylvania. It would seem this tale was crafted to support their love of the lease or PPA.

Never fear, though.... it's perfectly legal and typically quite beneficial to own your own solar system in PA.

Today is World Laughter day... and as the mother of an adolescent boy, I hear the word "bro" a million times a day. So this joke made me laugh!

When I was a teacher, my favorite part of the job was when a student would successfully show me they understood the concepts we were learning.

It turns out that as a solar broker, it's still exciting when someone shows me they "get it." This customer did his own math to determine what his year 1 savings were... and then shared it with me. I was proud of him and excited to see his system is performing well and saving him money!

I love my job! One of the best parts is getting happy messages from customers showing off their high production or their low bills! Another perk is meeting so many cool pets... and their people. 🐶🐱

In Pennsylvania, it's easy to accidentally overpay on your utility bill. It starts with a low introductory third-party rate (or a misleading telemarketing call) and before you know it your rate is much higher than it would be if you were dealing directly with your utility.

I once had a customer who joked that he needed someone with a PhD in electric bills to figure out his bill. It turned out that he just needed me. He had a high third-party rate that was pushing up his bill and costing him hundreds more than necessary.

How can you avoid this? Check your price to compare and make sure your third-party rate is below it. If not, call and cancel.

A potentially even more lucrative way of avoiding this cycle? Solar!
