Brad Whitt

"I read other books – the Bible reads me." - Dr.
Dr. on the importance of a Christian home:
"Home is the university of life with parents as the professors, children as students and life as the lab."
A preacher's joy is seeing the lost found, the blind see, and the broken made whole in Christ.
Tonight, during our family's devotional time, we read Proverbs 1:20-27. At the end, I asked each Whitt kid what they learned from our passage. Ben, 11, said, "Wisdom is a girl." Well, young sir, you are correct. ;-)
The goal of preaching is not applause from the pews but the applause of heaven.
A lesson I heard from one of my early ministry mentors that I didn't understand then but better understand now as I've watched more and more celebrity pastors rise, fall, and fade away: "Don't peak too early."
In seminary I was taught this little verse for preaching: "Start low, go slow. Rise higher, catch fire. Retire.”
I never could do that. Doesn't fit how God has wired me.
So thankful for this other piece of preaching advice I was taught as a young preaching student: "Start with a BANG and quit all over."
On this last day of 2023, let this quote from my pastor, Dr. , comfort and encourage you:
"We don't know what the coming year will bring—sickness, heartache, or trouble. But I do know that you can boldly say, “The Lord will be my helper. I will not fear what man shall do to me.”
Find your contentment, your companionship, and your confidence in Jesus. In Him you will find your comfort and your courage."
2024 is going to be an AMAZING year to serve and share Jesus!! C'mon!!
"Influence is a reflection of character; a godly character leads to godly influence."
Love new believers so much that God will send a bunch of them to your church.
Charles Spurgeon was once asked by one of his students whether those who had never heard about Jesus could ever be saved. “A troubling question indeed,” he consented. "But even more troubling," he said, "was whether we who know the gospel and do nothing to bring it to the lost could actually be saved.” He said, “If Jesus is precious to you, you will not be able to keep your good news to yourself. You will be whispering it into your child’s ear; you will be telling it to your husband; you will be earnestly imparting it to your friend; without the charms of eloquence you will be more than eloquent; your heart will speak, and your eyes will flash as you talk of his sweet love… Every Christian here is either a missionary or imposter.” –Spurgeon, 'A Sermon and a Reminiscience.'
* The Old Testament tells us how the story begins.
* The Gospels tell us who the story is about.
* The Epistles tell us what the story means.
* Revelation tells us how the story ends.
- We need it all.
The sermon begins in the study, is preached from the pulpit, and is completed in the lives of the hearers.
Dr. on new year's resolutions: "Most of our resolutions will go in one year and out the other."
;-)
That's why he gives this suggestion: "I will put first things first."
Here are five things Dr. Rogers suggests we put first:
1. First your fellowship with your brother, then your worship.
2. First the spiritual, then the material things of life.
3. First purity, then our ministry to others.
4. First the binding of satan, then the loosing of sinners.
5. First the cleansing of the inside, then the outside.
(Matthew 5:23-24; 6:33)
On this day after Christmas, as we look fwd to a new year, remember this encouraging word from Dr. : "Sorrow looks back, worry looks around, faith looks up."
“Thank God for the mystery of the manger, the blessings of Bethlehem, and the treasures of the Trinity.” - Dr. .
!
The most important qualification for a preacher is not that he should know everything but that he should love his people.
Dr. Adrian Rogers on what the birthday of Jesus means for us: “If it were not for the birthday of the Lord Jesus Christ, what would all the other birthdays mean? The cakes, candles, and gifts would mean that we are one year nearer death, the grave, and the judgment that is sure to follow. Yet, because of His birth, every birthday we have means that we are one year nearer Heaven, home, and fellowship with our loved ones and our Lord.” - Dr. .
"A preacher's life should be a commentary upon his doctrine. Heavenly doctrines should always be adorned with a heavenly life." - Thomas Brooks
"The task of the preacher is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable." - Vance Havner
A sermon is not an essay or a lecture; it is a living word that should engage both the mind and the heart of the listener.
You REALLY need to listen to Dr. Al Mohler's Daily Briefing from yesterday where he addresses and dismantles the Pope's/Roman Catholic Church's recent move to allow RC priests to bless same s*x unions. This isn't just a radical change in and subversion of church history, it's a rejection of Biblical authority and Divine design. We can't bless what Scripture calls sin.
Tuesday, December 19, 2023 Did Pope Francis Really Give Blessing to Same-Sex Couples? The Complicated Disaster of the News Coming Out of the Vatican Progressing the Sexual Revolution By a Wink: The Strategy of Pope Francis to Blur the Lines of “Union” Ceremonies with Weddings The Bottom Line of the Roman Catholic Church.....
Preaching is the proclamation of God's Word with clarity, conviction, and compassion, in the power of the Holy Spirit, for the transformation of lives.
The purpose of preaching is not to tickle our ears, but to pierce our hearts.

Dr. warns against being self-centered this : "Christmas is a wonderful time to begin to think of others. So many realize the emptiness in their lives and have a hunger in their hearts to know Jesus."
