Brian Fowler - Fiddle & Vocalist
Brian Fowler, from Snyder, Texas began playing the fiddle at the age of 7 when his Grandad found Hoyle Nix’s son, Jody, to teach him. Brian learned to play by ear and took lessons from Jody Nix for about 3 years before moving on to the great Don Toole. Brian spent most of his weekends following Hoyle and other bands all other the country playing Western Swing.
Brian stopped playing for several years, but then ended up with his best friend Kyle Herrley. The two started playing with Tommy Reed and Texas Mesquite. They played all over West Texas for many years!
After another hiatus from playing, he once again teamed up with his buddy, Kyle, and started playing with Shady Mitchell from Loraine, Texas. Brian started sitting in with lots of other acts across Texas and other states.
Brian has played everything from Texas Swing to Texas Country and has had the privilege of opening and playing with many of the greats. No matter what type of music he has played, Brian always came back to the music he grew up on Western Swing!!
Brian Fowler everyone!!!! He is AMAZING on the Fiddle and so much fun to watch and listen to. If you haven't heard 419 Swing Band or haven't heard them in a while, you are missing out!!!!
Kyle Ray Herrley - Drums & Percussion
Kyle started playing drums at Snyder High School in 1975. His Mother and Dad loved to dance and would take Kyle with them to different venues where he set in with different bands playing country/swing music.
Kyle was blessed at a early age to play full time with Doyle (Shady) Mitchell. He knew that Country/Swing Music was his calling and where he wanted to be.
Kyle has recorded in several music studios over the years. Recently, he had the opportunity to play for: Jody Nix, Lisa Lane, Curtis Potter and Claude Gray to name a few. He also played with many top name musicians in the business today: Floyd Domino, Al Boo Miller, Justin Trevino, Hank Singer and many more. Kyle believes his biggest award is when people come up to him to let him know that they enjoyed his drumming.
Kyle has had the opportunity in playing with several bands over the years which include: Kicking Kountry, Silver Spur, Texas Mesquite, Sante Fe, and is currently with Lance Shaw & 419 Swing Band.
Kyle is a member of Deep Creek Country Church and plays the drums for the music team. He is looking forward to Gods Will, and the opportunity to play for years to come!
You guys put your hands together and say hi to Mr. Kyle Herrley!
Eli Chavez - Bass Guitar
Eli has been performing in various bands since 1970. He was 12 the first time he took the stage and played at a dance. Eli started out playing the trumpet and tuba which he learned to play in school. Since then, he has played with five other on the trumpet including:
Crosstown Traffic / Big Spring Tx.
Orchestra Pantoja / Roscoe Tx.
Grupo Castigo / Sweetwater Tx.
Fever Pitch / Sweetwater Tx.
Soulmates / Abilene Tx.
Eli taught himself to play the bass guitar in 2001 and has played with six bands since including:
Grupo Fuerza / Sweetwater Tx.
Kobalt / Sweetwater Tx.
Shane Henry & 4X Band / Tye Texas
ill Lobo Blues Band / Hamlin Tx.
3 Stories High / Sweetwater Tx. (current)
Lance Shaw & 419 Swing Band / (current)
Since joining up with 419 Swing Band, Eli has taught himself to play the stand-up bass. Throughout my ventures with each of these groups, he also has helped out in church choirs in Colorado City and Merkel, TX. Eli picked up and learned Tejano, Blues, Pop, Soul, Texas Country, and now he can't get enough of Western Swing or Classic Rock. Eli still plays the trumpet and the tuba, but doesn’t find many opportunities for horn playing.
Eliwas introduced to Western Swing while he was in his early teens when an uncle of his turned him on to his collection of 78's of Bob Wills. Until then, Country Music made him think of sitting in a hot kitchen in an uncomfortable chair with no AC in the middle of Summer drinking a hot beer. After he heard Bob Wills, Eli learned he hadn't heard true Western Swing before then. Eli loves all kinds of music obviously, but at the end of the day, he says, “I just wanna play!” Eli thanks his parents for letting him listen to whatever music he wanted growing up. All he ever remembers hearing them say was, "Turn It Down!".
Getting to know your band members:
Shelly Wallace
Keyboard - Vocalist
Over a period of about 20 years and 2 album releases, Shelly Wallace has enjoyed a variety of music, but has maintained a steady love for Western Swing music since playing with Lance Shaw & 419 Swing Band.
Shelly is originally from College Station, but moved to the small West Texas town of Sweetwater at an early age. Shelly has two loves in her life: Her son, Brayden and Music.
Shelly has been playing the keyboard with Lance Shaw & 419 Swing Band since 2020. She is known as the Mom of the group and tries hard to keep all the guys in line. Her most enjoyable part of being a member of 419 is the friendships that she has made with the other band members.
Shelly also has a beautiful voice and is not only one of the backup singers for the band, she loves showcasing her lead in one of her favorite songs in “Walking After Midnight”, by Patsy Cline.
Shelly has had the honor of being a part of the band as they accepted prestigious awards over the last few years.
“Western Swing Duo/Group of The Year” in 2021 by Academy of Western Artist
“The Rising Western Swing Band Award” in 2023 by CMA of Texas.
Let's show Shelly Wallace some love!!! ❤❤
We have some exciting news guys: Baxter Vaughan is now the new Pedal Steel Guitar player for Lance Shaw & 419 Swing Band.
While we were sad to lose one of our originals, Rex Mayfield, we are excited to have the opportunity to have Baxter on our stage!
He will make his debut with the band at The Legendary Coyote Store performance on March 29th! Y’all make sure to come out and listen and dance the night away. And, make sure to welcome Baxter to the band!
Baxter Vaughan has been playing Pedal Steel Guitar since 1976. He was part of the 1st year of the Country Music program at South Plains College. He has been blessed to cut his playing teeth with some very good and very patient Musicians. Western Swing was what he was exposed to from the very beginning. It built a fiery passion that burns just as strong today as it did all those years ago. As those seasoned musicians taught him, learning true Western Swing will put you on a fast track to learning the ins and outs of the instrument and will make learning other types of music much easier. Over the years, Baxter has had to opportunity to share the stage with many Country Music stars such as the Bellamy Brothers, Doug Supernaw, Charlie McClain and John Anderson. Just to name a few. He has opened up for many more such as Asleep at the Wheel, Ray Price, Johnny Rodriguez and The Dixie Chicks again, just to name a few. As well as working on music videos and many recording sessions. In 2020, Baxter was chosen Instrumentalist of the year by the Country Music Association of Texas. Being the first Steel Guitar player to have been chosen. While recording with the band ‘Gary Nix & West Texas’, his album was chosen as album of the year by the CMA of Texas. In 2023, Baxter was inducted in the Western Swing Music Society of the Southwest Hall of Fame. With God’s grace, he will have the opportunity to play for many more years.
