However scary these may look, don’t judge this case by its cover. These are medical gua sha’s and are used as a myofascial therapy. Let’s take a look at 3 beneficial reasons behind using these during/ after massage.
1. Stimulates the immune system
One of the most promising benefits of gua sha is its effect on the immune system. When this treatment is performed, the immune system is activated, allowing the body to speed up its natural healing process. In Asian culture, gua sha is often used in the case of illness to “let the sickness escape.”
2. Reduces pain
Gua sha therapy is anti-inflammatory, which can help dramatically reduce myalgia, which makes it great for treating chronic pain. Studies have also shown that it “has a therapeutic impact in inflammatory conditions, such as active chronic hepatitis, where liver inflammation indicates organ breakdown that over time can lead to premature death” .No matter your condition, a gua sha treatment can help soothe your muscles.
3. Needle-free
Gua sha offers relief similar to acupuncture, but it is less invasive, making it more appealing to those not interested in needles. This makes the practice common among all ages, including children.
See... that’s not so bad. If any of these relief patterns appeal to you. We think it’s time for you to make your appointment..
Have you ever gone in to any massage therapist asking for a deep tissue massage? With a constant response of I do not specialize in this? Let’s take a look at the reasons behind this.
The definition of a DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE is: technique that's mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as strains and sports injuries. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues.
Now let’s look at other options.
CONNECTIVE TISSUE:
is a manipulative technique that facilitates the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of pathologies. Observation and subsequent manipulation of the skin and subcutaneous tissues can have a beneficial effect upon tissues remote from the area of treatment.
NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY:
is a specialized form of manual massage in which digital pressure and friction are used to release areas of strain in a muscle. Strain areas are called tender or trigger points, and they tend to be the cause of ongoing muscular pain symptoms
CRANIAL SACRIAL THERAPY:
is sometimes also referred to as craniosacral therapy. It’s a type of bodywork that relieves compression in the bones of the head, sacrum (a triangular bone in the lower back), and spinal column.
CST is noninvasive. It uses gentle pressure on the head, neck, and back to relieve the stress and pain caused by compression. It can, as a result, help to treat a number of conditions.
Some/ most massage therapist do not specialize in deep tissue massage due to a number of reasons. Rough on our body, time consuming and feeling like we are beating up people. We are healers. However, if you are expecting the same outcome and could not find someone close to you whom does this specialization these 3 are a great alternative. Terminology is always hard to find what you are looking for, however choosing one of these and explaining your pain during a consultation can create a wonderful result with an open mind.
Did you know, that you can manifest your own pain? Stress is a crazy cloud, one that can drive you or pain you. Here are some facts of how massage could help, when it comes to stress:
Massage alters EEG activity, increases parasympathetic activity and decreases cortisol levels
Massage is widely used in all cultures to evoke feelings of deep relaxation and reduced anxiety. The anxiety-reducing and mood enhancing benefits of massage are probably related to changes in EEG activity, decreased levels of cortisol and increased activity of the parasympathetic nervous system, which acts automatically to calm the body and brain during stress. Numerous studies show that moderate pressure massage is more effective than light pressure massage for reducing pain associated with different medical problems including fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. Moderate pressure massage also improves attention and enhances the body's immune response by increasing the activity of natural killer cells. Functional brain imaging studies show that changes take place in many areas of the brain involved in regulating emotions and stress response including the amygdala and the hypothalamus. For an excellent review of the research evidence for massage therapy see "Massage Therapy Research Review" by Challenges to designing studies on massage
It is difficult to examine the beneficial effects of massage therapy using contemporary research methods because it is impossible to design a double-blind study in which the person receiving massage therapy is 'blinded' to treatment. Also, the physical and psychological benefits of massage are difficult to quantify in controlled trials. Findings of many studies are limited by the absence of a sham control group i.e., a group treated by someone who poses as a massage therapist but has no training. The situation is further complicated by the fact that few massage therapists are trained in research methods or work in institutional settings where sham-controlled trials can be conducted.
Massage is widely used for anxiety and has a strong record of success
In spite of the paucity of published research evidence, regular massage is a widely used technique in many cultures to treat chronic stress and anxiety and deserves serious consideration. Consistent anecdotal evidence, a long history of widespread use of massage for stress reduction, and positive findings of open trials support the view that regular massage therapy reduces the severity of chronic moderate anxiety in general, and specifically when anxiety is related to test-taking or problem-solving, work stress or the anticipation of invasive medical procedures.
In my own clinical experience working with patients who complain of chronic stress, test-taking stress and generalized anxiety, regular massage therapy effectively reduces anxiety, improves emotional resilience and enhances feelings of general well-being in anxious patients.
Few safety issues
Massage is safe when done by a trained therapist, seldom resulting in injuries. However, individuals who have chronic pain disorders or other medical conditions that involve the musculoskeletal system should consult with their physician before receiving regular massage therapy.

Did you know that there are so many benefits behind cupping therapy?
There are so many to list, but let’s start with the top 3.
1: CUPPING INCREASES CIRCULATION: The suction from the cups increases circulation to the area where the cups are placed. The additional blood flow to that area can help relieve muscle tension and promote cell repair. Increasing circulation with cupping also helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
2: CUPPING REDUCES ANXIETY: When your therapist glides the cups across your skin, your parasympathetic nervous system engages. This promotes deep relaxation to move through your entire body. (Your parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for slowing your heart rate, assisting in digestion, and increasing intestinal and gland activity.)
3: CUPPINNG CAN CLEAR CONGESTION AND HELP TREAT ASTHMA: Congestion (the buildup of fluid or phlegm in your lungs) caused by a cold, bronchitis, or even asthma can be treated with cupping. The suction from cups breaks up and expels congestion. It brings oxygen rich blood and lymph toward your lungs and your other respiratory muscles. Cups are usually placed on your back, but may be placed on your chest as well. Your therapist may leave the cups in place, or may gently glide them in an upward motion to facilitate the movement of the lymph fluid. Facial cupping can also be used to help unblock your sinuses.
Cupping therapy may look strange or even scary, but it can be a powerful healing tool.

About The Practitioner;
Hi there, my name is Shayna and I am a Licensed Massage Therapist. Also being a mother, a wife, Caregiver, Neurological care professional for both children and adults, Medication technician, and holistic/ energy care worker. Enjoying the knowledge of life and everything new this world has come to find and create. Through my years of knowledge I have found so many things to be drawn to, however nothing has brought me as much joy as this right here, never shaking the feeling of being a part of pregnancy, birth, hospice, and injury rehabilitation. 6 years of debating on a Massage Therapist career and it was all worth it. With having a major care for life in all stages is why I have been so drawn to these fields. Taking pride in the undivided individual care I can provide with soon to be mothers, during birth, post birth care and everything in between to bringing a stress free and comforting end of life transition. Along with helping those whom have lived in pain for long periods due to an injury in there past of life.
In pregnancy, we as woman are working even when we are not physically moving. Our bodies are growing a new being that has chosen to be a part of our world. The body takes on a lot and in this day and age we are asked to work all the way to the end of this time with just a few weeks to recover. Pregnancy is one of the hardest jobs in the world and sometimes just needs to be comforted with a warm and embracing touch. Also let’s face it, every pregnant woman has at one point really wanted their feet rubbed and it is not easy for us to get to them ourselves.
During birth, the hardest but yet most rewarding moment in life is stressful, filled with joy, pain and a world wind of emotions. Massage during this time is a way to relax and bond, taking the time to center one’s self into this most amazing time. Touch can do more than just help relax, it could help with pain of a contraction, centering the mind , and circulating the blood in the body to help provide oxygen to this child whom is making their way into this world.
Injury rehabilitation is a journey that takes both patience and understanding of how the body works between neurological, cell and muscle communication. Creating a personalized care plan with ones MD or Chiropractor to achieve the best results for the patient. Through the use of tools, stretch, lengthening and recovery of these areas to communicate is where healing in ones body begins.
Hospice massage is beneficial on its own without explanation. Allowing a moment of peace to breath, the body to center, The mind to clear and focus. This spiritual moment is where my career started and feel that I must pay my respects to this modality of massage. The moral of my story is that no matter the age, body type nor mental capability we all need the time to center and relax in a comforting environment, this is what I am here to provide and why I provide it.
