Ride the Drive will be here in 10 days on Sunday, August 11! We still have afternoon volunteer slots to fill. What does it mean to be a Ride the Drive volunteer? Overwhelming feedback from past volunteers, say "It's fun!" Others have said they enjoy meeting new friends and hanging out with folks who also love Madison, strive for healthy-living and support reducing environmental impacts. Does this sound like you too? Please meet GRiT Ambassador: Lily Schmidt

Hi, i’m Lily Schmidt and i have LOVED biking since I was little. I learned how to ride my first bike when i was 3. I discovered NICA, GRiT and Madison East MTB team in 6th grade. Ever since i started, i have loved riding bikes even more than before. I’m is so excited to be able to share my experience and love for bikes with other girls and most importantly, inspire people.

The main reason why i wanted to be a GRiT ambassador is because ever since i started, i wanted to see more girls ride! I also wanted to give girls a chance to experience what i did when i joined NICA and GRiT by having that feeling that other coaches and girls are here to support me. Not all girls ride the same pace, and that’s ok. But we all still matter and should always try our best. I can not wait for this season to start and be able to race with GRiT!

Please meet Grit Mentor: Peggy Hoffmann

Peggy is entering her 3rd year coaching for Madison LaFollette and East. She has always loved being outside on a bike. Peggy raced BMX as a youth and adult and is an Ironman triathlete. Once she and her son discovered mountain biking and it's amazing community, she was hooked. She is eager to share her love of mountain biking with everyone and is especially excited to be a GRIT mentor, aiming to inspire and encourage more girls to take up the sport.

TREK 100: VOLUNTEER TO PARTY WITH A CLAUS

That’s right....a CLAUS! Our friends at Trek have asked the WI NICA League to support their fundraiser for the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer) by running a rest stop during the Trek 100 and we need you!

Our rest stop is inspired by Brooklyn, a MACC kid who loved winter. We are creating winter in June with winter yard inflatables, a snowball fight, Kona Ice, cookie decorating and chocolate milk disguised at hot chocolate, complete with marshmallows and candy canes.

Help NICA give back to Trek, and ultimately to the MACC Fund and volunteer for this great day of fun!

Wisconsin GRiT Ambassador Application

What is a GRiT Ambassador?

The NICA GRiT Ambassador Program aims to engage female NICA student-athletes in spreading the word about the GRiT program within NICA leagues. A GRiT Ambassador will be a female student-athlete representative for the GRiT program who will be in high school in the fall of 2024. They will help raise awareness of the effort to get and most importantly, will also be the local advocate and voice for what our female student-athletes want out of the GRiT program. A GRiT Ambassador will play a key role in recruiting and retaining more girls in NICA programs at the league level.

A GRiT Ambassador(s) should be a female student-athlete currently riding and racing in the league she is representing. GRiT Ambassadors applicants must complete the form below. At the minimum, a GRiT Ambassador will be chosen based on her personality, dedication, ability to inspire other girls to join and ride, communication style, years in the league and location in the state.

Madison Parks has listened to the community and included mountain bike facilities on their property north of Garver Feed Mill known as Olbrich Park - North Parcel. There is a Public Input Meeting this Thursday, February 29 at 6:00; it would be great for them to hear more support for this, and other mountain bike projects. The Adventure crew has scheduled an Adventure Ride at Nordic Mountain for October 12-13, which is not a full event weekend.

Details are in the works but for now, note there will be options for teams to attend and ride as groups but we will also have some coaches available to lead rides for athletes who want to attend if their team does not.

Parent/Caregiver led Camping will be available Saturday night for those who are interested but coming up for day riding is fine too. Camping time is not NICA time, as usual.

We're thrilled to announce that the Trek NICA Pathfinders Scholarship application window for Fall leagues is about to open on February 15th! 📚✨

Trek has partnered with the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) to make a significant impact on the world of cycling. Together, we are on a mission to grow diversity in the sport and provide better access for people of color (POC). 🚵‍♂️🌎

This year, the Trek NICA Pathfinders Scholarship will once again empower selected student-athletes in extraordinary ways. Here's what's in store:

🚴‍♀️ A Trek Marlin mountain bike
🪖 A helmet for safety
👟 Cycling shoes and accessories
💰 Plus, a stipend to cover NICA league fees and entry fees for the season

Congrats Chris Malloy!

Boys Cross Country Head Coach, Chris Malloy, was recently named the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association District 5 Coach of the Year - after leading the boys team to the Sectional Championship on Oct 21, the team competed in the State Meet for the first time in 43 years on Oct 28, where they finished in 11th Place led by All State 2nd Team Runners Finnian Stringer and Mason Bieri. Congratulations to Coach Malloy and the whole cross country team on a great season!

Buff/Facemask requirement - explained

We are requiring all student athletes and coaches to "have available" a face-mask or buff at all practices. What this means, is if a coach determines the need to wear for safety, they will instruct to do so. Please understand the the buff will not need to be worn during their riding.

Coaches, Team Directors, or parents - please fill out our 2020 Scholarship Application Form if you have a need. A bit different from previous years, folks will need to be signed up in the pitzone, prior to applying, and we will insert a credit in their account for the scholarship $ to be used.
