The Morrisburg Leaders final question of the week.

Open Mic - Which means you have 175 words to use as you wish courtesy of The Leader. Talk about whatever you want voters to remember as they prepare to vote.

My answer;

The next four years will be a challenge in successfully addressing the public’s concerns and gain the trust of the next elected Council.

I am committed to strengthening the Municipalities financial fiscal budget by seizing and developing opportunities for growth. Economic growth is a key component in easing the pressures of rising user fees and property taxes.

I have maintained the importance of Council to continuously work with business owners, residence, and community leaders so that our concepts and ideas will become a South Dundas reality.

The past few weeks have been a great experience. I've learned that the people are passionate and proud to live in South Dundas and want a Council to represent all of our communities and helps this Municipality to reach its fullest potential. If elected, I will maintain an open communication policy, I truly believe that your opinion and ideas matter for the betterment of our communities.

As stated in the all-candidates meeting, we have a choice, and on October 24, I ask for your support as Deputy Mayor of South Dundas.

Best regards.
Marc

The Morrisburg Leaders question on asset management.

Building South Dundas - Municipal infrastructure (roads, bridges, water, sewer, landfill, buildings, malls, parks and recreational facilities) are the bones of South Dundas. While South Dundas is in a good financial position, it does have a large infrastructure deficit, meaning that the municipality’s current infrastructure needs far outweigh the available funds. What are your infrastructure priorities and how will you address them while keeping taxes affordable?rowing South Dundas – According to Statistics Canada, South Dundas’ population is rapidly aging. In order to support existing municipal needs and not download the financial burden to existing citizens, the municipality needs to grow.
If elected, what will you do to address the need for population growth in South Dundas?

Ansewer:

The upgrading, expansion, and prioritizing the needs of the Municipalities’ infrastructure assets will be critical over the next term of council. Increasing the Municipalities revenue, to offset the asset deficit will be challenging however can be achieved in various ways.

Expansion of the tax base revenue through residential, commercial, and industrial growth is desperately needed. A comprehensive review of the Official Plan and the Municipalities serviced and non-service land is required to ensure that growth can be actively achieved throughout the Municipality.

Council and staff need to be fiscally responsible: maintaining a controlled budget, allocating funds to asset needs versus asset wants of the Municipality and the control of future staff hiring.

Continuously pursuing Federal and Provincial funding opportunities to offset the cost of upgrading and the expansion of infrastructure assets is a must for infrastructure improvements and to improve recreational facilities and parks.

Embrace our community stakeholder ideas and initiatives, while working alongside them to find efficient ways to accomplish their visions for the benefit of the Municipality.

Regards,
Marc

The Morrisburg Leaders question of the week.

Family Matters – Recreation is an important part of growing a vibrant community in South Dundas. It attracts people to visit and move here. If elected, what are your priorities for supporting existing recreation programming and responding to the recreation needs of South Dundas now and for the next several years?

Answer.

Strong recreational programs, well maintained facilities and a long-term plan is key in living a healthy lifestyle and promoting South Dundas as a place to live, work, and visit.

For me, Recreational Programs must continue to attract every age group whether through sports, arts or fitness and these programs should be offered throughout the Municipality such as the Matilda Park, the Dunbar Recreation building, the Iroquois and Morrisburg parks and on-line to name a few. Council needs to work with the community groups to ensure every opportunity is made available for everyone to participate at an affordable rate.

The next term of Council should prioritize and review the draft Master Recreational Plan and work with the community stakeholders in developing an updated plan that addresses the needs and wants of the South Dundas community.

As a Deputy Mayor, working with Council and staff, securing funding opportunities offered by our Provincial and Federal Governments will be a priority as it’s extremely important in maintaining our existing facilities, replacing with new and improved facilities, and the continuation of the recreational programming.

During the all-candidates meeting, I mentioned that it’s time for the next Council, staff and the community throughout to determine the viability of building, operating and maintaining a Multi-Recreational Facility. It’s time for all of us together, in the making of this decision.

Regards
Marc St. Pierre

Hello South Dundas!

Welcome to the official “Vote for Marc St. Pierre as Deputy Mayor” page. I would like to take this opportunity to formally introduce myself.

I am Marc St. Pierre and have been a long-time resident of South Dundas for the past 34 years. I currently reside in Mariatown with my wife Michelle of 26 years and daughter Victoria.

For almost 30 years I have been employed by a Civil Engineering, Planning and Landscape Architectural firm. There I have become a Senior Project Manager overseeing the design, approvals, and construction of various Municipal improvement projects along with the development of residential, commercial, and industrial land development projects for the private sector. During my career I have gained the experience and skills of understanding small and large-scale budgets and have an appreciation for projects to be on-time and on-budget. Throughout my career I have witnessed the benefits of growth for small to medium size Municipalities and Townships.

I was an active firefighter for the South Dundas Morrisburg station for nearly 17 years. During my tenure I was the Fire Prevention Officer, then the Training Officer before being promoted as the stations Assistant Deputy Chief for the last 5 years. Although retiring in 2014 was one the hardest decision to make, I did so to fully represent South Dundas as a Municipal Councillor between 2014-2018.
Stepping into Municipal politics was something that always intrigued me. Wanting to be part of the Municipality in a larger capacity, understanding and gaining experience of Municipal budgets, operations and wanting to make a difference was certainly a goal of mine. During the term of Council, we certainly faced some big challenges, but no bigger than the proposal to close schools in Morrisburg and Iroquois in 2017. As a Council, staff and the community stakeholders, we together created a plan to invest $30,000 to engage Code Heroes here in South Dundas, which teaches students programming skills and coding logic. We were no prouder when the Upper Canada District School Board announced that our schools would remain open.
On Friday August 19th, with the support of Michelle and Victoria I decided to run again however this time, as the Deputy Mayor of South Dundas. Although Facebook and websites are not my forte, problem solving, thinking ahead for the now and the future, listening and working together to grow South Dundas into an even better place to live, do business and enjoy the many amenities, understanding the importance of controlled budgets and paving the way for development growth and working with community people are my strongest suits.

Best regards

Marc St. Pierre
