Unvarnished
The next evolution in homebuying. Created by visionary home designer Scott Gillen, Unvarnished is a
Barron’s was nice enough to give us a little bit of a push, thank you for the press always great to see. We are excited to have sold the first home, what an awesome feeling of validation.
Very proud to announce the first closing at the case. House 3, The Edge closed today. I have been working on this development for about 7 years now and I am so happy to say that we have closed on The Edge. This house is definitely a favorite of mine, even though I say that every time. This house will hold a special place in my heart being the first home at the case completed and sold. Very exciting. I am exhausted and elated. Happy and beyond excited. I must say there were times along the way that I got very angry while I was very happy, the commitment to create a community at this level was extremely motivating. It’s actually hard to even articulate what I’m trying to say.. things like this take a team and I have a massive team around me. Congratulations congratulations to the owner. I hope you enjoy this for a long time to come. We should be completing the second house shortly and this is also in escrow. Happy Fourth of July everybody.
This is just a little something I’m working on, and this is just a little preview. You should never give up on your goals and you should never stop pushing, big news next week.
Almost finished and sold already…..
Take a moment to study what you do and let it absorb into you head, make sure the intention was not forgotten. I’m looking for details and depth and character, I want the light to fall off. The experience in the space must be smoothing calming and seamless….. the bookshelf have a void in the wall, take full advantage of each and every inch….take a moment and study.
I am happy and humbled to be once again listed in the LA most influential people, the top 500. I tried to reach goals that are set so they cannot be met. I strive on perfection. Most say, perfection is a recipe for failure. I would disagree with this concept, it’s worked well for me. Never stop the push, never stop the dream and just never 🛑 I came from nothing and I’m not done yet. Thank you again to the LA 500, this is very much appreciated. This is my fourth year running….Happy to be in this company.
Built tough like a Ford
It’s difficult to fathom how I was able to achieve this. I have a very fantastic, amazing group of individuals who worked their butts off every day. This is about a team, effort, team, this would’ve never happened. This is the edge, happy to say it is sold already. It is an amazing home, so proud you have accomplished this. Stay tuned.
It’s about creating depth, shadow drop, and a tremendous amount of lines, horizontal, and vertical. Upon entering the front door it’s just nuts, the pure scale and the proportion of the room, hanging out over the Pacific Ocean. Crazy nuts. This is the butterfly house, at the Case. take the tour
Woke up to a bunch of friends texting me this…. you know what they say, and he presses good press.
Well it was done…. what a journey it’s been, nothing but love.
So great to have good friends to share the highs and sometimes the lows in life. It not always the best days as we all know but on this day it was pretty great. Thanks for stopping in to say hello and eat a burger, highs and lows of life, laugh and cray it’s all good when friendship is there… thank you sir.
I have decided to no longer build wooden structured homes, effective immediately. And now we only do poured in place Concrete architectural, 60 style mid century, modern homes, with warmth.
Good@morning, from@my house to yours…..
After the storm canes the calm, anyone that lives here knows that’s why we stay….. there is nothing that comes close to Malibu
For the sake of conversation, let’s just forget about the desaturated color, and overall aesthetic of this image. I think if we focus on the architecture itself, I believe this is the epitome of mid century modern homes. This is what I sent out to do here at the Case, looking at this now I hope I was able to achieve that. The pitched roofs, which resemble the wings of a butterfly hence the butterfly house. We are in the final moments of completion. Of course, the teak is not finished nor is the deck, this will bring us the depth we are looking for. The location of the particular house is on the bluff overlooking Malibu colony and surf or beach. You can watch the sunrise and the sunset over the point. I think it’s epic into those of you who have followed this five-year journey, I welcome any comments. Thank you please don’t be harsh. I have very thin skin.
Some more of the work in progress at the Case, This is the largest house at 12.500 square feet. When finished you were able to see down the center of the hall, which is completely glass. Hence the glass tunnel.
Maybe I’m stuck in a time period or maybe I’m just getting old but I love the look of simplicity. Tried to recreate a moment in time where things were simple be we made them complicated. Less is always more, I hope most have loved following the process of the home in general and if not, well it’s ok… I’ve had a great time and hope those who have love it like I have.
I’m always trying new design ideas, techniques, depths of field, shadow drops, it’s interesting when you try to create something without a lot of room. This is a lightwell 20 some feet below grade, it’s allowed a tremendous amount of light to go into three separate areas. You would never know this led to underground Subterranean parking structure. Pretty nuts. Concrete , Steal , and glass, three design pieces of material that will never grow old.
Always try new stuff…
Sometimes the architectural designs kind of blow my mind, I know it’s simple, but it is pretty epic. You need to look past the simplicity to really see the lines and how each section comes together. A very interesting blend of pause.
Keep it simple.
The butterfly house, the spine walls are complete, and the color coat is on the stucco. We have just started doing the walkways, we will move shortly to the pond. It’s an amazing home and going very well. This will be completed in about three months. Again to say this was alit to tackle, might be the understatement of epic proportions.
‘tis the season, and this is the weather, this time of year is epic.
I try to create architecturally significant homes, it’s a waste of time to just build a house. To create a home with a vibe and a style inside of a space where you live, is the ultimate goal. All aspects of your house should be a series of seamless transitions, they should never crowd and never stand out. If something stands out, I feel I have missed the boat….that is a disappointment. I do believe I have gone way out beyond. The Case is a very significant community and too feel what you feel when you’re there, is gratifying. Homes should be an extension of you.
I had an egg sandwich for breakfast, made a big mess….
It was the birthday of the little G, she almost all grown up. Well so she thinks…… two half’s one full.
Happy Sunday to all.
Some work pics
I like big pools and I love a great place. The environment is so important, great space but still very intimate at the same time. You might think it’s too big but when your here it’s so good. This time of the year the views are endless.
