In 1974, John "Tip" Miller, a young mechanical engineer from rural North Dakota, left his job to found a company manufacturing computer components on a Native American reservation in his home state. Weathering a recession, inflation, and upheavals in the tech industry, his company earned the trust of major customers like IBM, Honeywell, and 3M and created hundreds of jobs for a generation of families on and around the Turtle Mountain Reservation. In 2000, he sold his business for close to $20 million.
