The endless questions racing through my mind—What happened? Where? When? How? This particular cake was for a sweet friend, adding to my nerves. I dreaded asking her if the cake was damaged when she picked it up, but I knew she’d give an honest answer. I was 99.9% certain it wasn’t damaged during pickup; I even took pictures right before. However, if there was any issue on my end, like a structural flaw, I needed to know. I had a gal request one of these vintage heart cakes to celebrate her birthday. Her requests were that it be blush pink colors, she wanted edible pearl numbers of the age she was turning and she sent me several inspo pics. Easy, right? I’ve done it before, no problem. Well, I did a mauve pink instead of blush pinks. And when I went to go add her age with the edible pearls, I absolutely hated how it looked so I asked her if I could use some silver mirror acrylic numbers I had instead. She wasn’t excited about the idea, but she said okay. Well, fast forward to when she picks up the cake and she was not happy with it at all. Thankfully she didn’t need the cake the same day as pickup and she was so incredibly sweet about the whole thing. I knew she didn’t want to come out and tell me she hated the cake but I could read the look on her face. So, she left without the cake and I promised to have a new one ready for her the next day. After I checked her inspo pics again, I was so mad at myself. I don’t know what I was thinking as I was decorating her cake. I was completely off on the color AND I didn’t do the specific piping she really liked in her inspo pics. So, thank goodness she gave me the time and chance to redo this cake for her. The first cake was pretty but it was definitely not what she had asked for. Through this experience I definitely learned a lesson and it was a good reminder to pay attention to the small details in inspo pics that are sent to you. I would never commit to replicating another baker’s cake, but I’m willing to try my hand at creating something similar to any inspiration pictures I’ve been provided with. This time, I didn’t quite achieve what I set out to do. This is a long one but it needed to be said. 🩷 You can hear my kiddo in the background so I apologize but I needed to push this out there. To expand a little little bit on what I said above … I wish I had the proper words to express my gratitude towards everyone that helped me with my events last weekend and to express the emotion I feel after meeting and talking to so many people. One of my best friends stayed with me all day long from 7:30 AM until 8:30 PM to help me run my booth. My wonderful mother (on her birthday ) and my stepdad, also helped me get set up early in the morning and helped me to make sure that I had everything that I needed to have a successful day. My husband and one of my sisters also helped me run my booth for a few hours that day and got heat going for us. (This was an outside event and it was COLD.) The heater was much appreciated. (Thank you @lovelandaleworks.) My other sister and her hubby watched my kids all day long and even helped me for HOURS putting stickers and labels on boxes and bags earlier in the week. I have been thinking all week what a remarkable weekend it was and I needed to tell everyone thank you, from the bottom of my heart. It made me feel so loved to have the support that I had but also to have met so many incredible people in this town. Everyone in this town is so damn kind and genuine. Even the vendors that were set up next to us. This sweet German lady who had us call her Oma, (grandma in German?) was one of the most warm and kind people I have ever met in my entire life. Anyway, my heart is overflowing with gratitude.
