Hey everyone! I have some news to share with all of you. This fall, I'll be embarking on a new exciting and scary adventure as I start my graduate studies in Social Work at the University of Montana. 🎓

Don't worry! Fat Fits isn't going anywhere! I'll just be hosting our next pop-up in January so that I can get my grad school sea-legs under me!

This means that the pop-up this Friday will be the last time to shop Fat Fits until this winter ❄️

Of course I have tons of of great summer pieces but I'll also have lovely sweaters, dresses and jackets that are perfect for the fall! 🍁

Four years ago my dad, sister and I were exploring France together. We've had a rocky but loved filled relationship and this was a trip that I'd been dreaming of going on since I was a little kid. Exploring the charming streets, savoring delicious croissants, and uncovering the secrets of where my grandfather once lived was beyond special. ✨

Everything about this trip was magical except for one little annoyance. As a plus-size person, finding clothes that truly reflect who I am can be quite a challenge. When preparing for this unforgettable trip, I was disappointed to discover a lack of stylish options that embraced my unique personality and showcased my authentic self. 😕

I found myself settling for boring pieces solely because they fit my body, not my style. It's disheartening to have limited choices that don't capture the essence of who we are, especially when embarking on such a significant adventure. 🌟

This experience is one of the reasons I decided to create Fat Fits, a plus-size pop-up shop that celebrates authenticity and style for all. 🎉

I’ve always loved fashion and design.

As a young child I would frequently raid my mom and grandma’s jewelry collections and old silken scarves and slips that easily transformed into beautiful dresses on my three to four year old body. I loved getting up in the middle of dinner to scamper off to my bedroom to throw on another dress or tutu on top of my already puffy and exuberant outfit. I slayed at mixing prints, sporting bold colors and expressing my fun loving self through my clothing at a young age.

As I grew older the pressure to fit in led me to wear more basic clothing from the likes of American Eagle and Hollister. During high school spirit weeks I would let my more authentic style shine through. Think bright red wide leg pants and a 1960s dress the exact color of Big Dippers tangerine sorbet.

As I grew older and as my body got larger I had a harder and harder time finding clothes that fit my body and my style. That's why I created Fat Fits. I want a space for all of us to share our fun and joyous insides on our outsides 💛

Fat people are lazy. Fat people are unmotivated. Fat people are ugly. Fat people are gross. Fat people are unhealthy. Fat people are less evolved than thin people. These are just a few of the common stereotypes attributed to fat people. There are many harmful myths and stereotypes in our society that perpetuate anti-fatness and discrimination towards fat people. Our culture has focused incorrectly on the individual's responsibility of “fixing and shrinking” fat bodies instead of dismantling our cultures' deeply held anti-fatness. Fat people don’t deserve discrimination, harassment and disrespect. Fat people deserve dignity and equality.

These awful messages drove me to create Fat Fits. I hope you can join our fat positive space on First Friday (April 7th) at the collective from 5-8pm. Join like minded folks for a fun evening and a break from the anti-fat garbage we have all been swimming in 💛

Story Time ✨

I have always loved clothing and fashion but as a fat person I've had a hard time finding apparel that helps me express my creativity, and my style point of view.

After many years of feeling like an after-thought in my community, I decided to create Fat Fits. Fat Fits is a small business and community driven organization that provides access to plus size clothing. Fat Fits host pop-up shops at local community organizations and small businesses where fat folks can come shop sustainably. Fat Fits sources thrifted, vintage and new one-of-a-kind pieces.

Not only does Fat Fits provide access to awesome clothing but it creates a community space for fat folks to come together and feel supported. Anti-fatness and discrimination against fat folks is a huge problem in our culture and I love the idea that Fat Fits can provide some respite and support for folks who are trying to weather this discrimination.

I hope you can come say hi and enjoy this fat love at our First Friday event on April 7th at from 5-8pm.
