Avondale Mutual Aid started in the spring of 2020 with a group of neighbors organizing food pantry pop ups, neighbor-to-neighbor resource shares and financial redistribution.

AMA has continued the work by hosting events, connecting neighbors to resources, rescuing food, sharing meals and doing the work of investing in strong communities through solidarity.

Direct financial support means neighbors can get exactly what they need.

When you support Avondale mutual aid, your resources go directly back to the people who live in the neighborhood. they're the people you pass on the street.

Free yard sale!

Taking donations! Due to construction happening, the encampments at California/Diversey and Belmont/Kedzie are being forced to move. We’re looking for emergency assistance to support our neighbors as they navigate this.

We have also received an urgent request for $ to help with a neighbor who needs medical support for an injury.

Yesterday more than 50 people came together in Avondale to build 8 new insulated tents with our houseless neighbors for the winter. Each tent also came with a propane heater, lights, cooler, cot, bedding, boots & clothes. Everyone is deeply grateful, and we know this is just one step toward getting housing.

To help fund this project with / , we’re working on fundraising for this project + continued work. We have a goal of at least $5000, and any additional will go towards winter support of community members.

For those that could not join the Community Visioning Session for the 30th ward Belmont Triangle project, DPD is running a survey available until June 6th. If you live/work/travel in this area please consider filling out this survey and let DPD know what you are looking for on this site!

At our last neighborhood meeting we heard residents say they are looking for more green space, a library, small local businesses, food hall, no surface parking lots or drive throughs, and pedestrian and bike friendly circulation. Let them know what you want!

How breastfeeding works: 3D breast
anatomy and milk production animation,
colostrum, breastmilk qualities, why
breastfeeding is important
Getting the best start: Sharing
breastfeeding plans with hospital staff, skin-to
-skin contact, rooming-in, lactation
consultants, pacifier recommendations.
Latching on: Reclined and upright positions, 3D animation comparing
deep and shallow latches.
Breastfeeding positions: Laid-back, cross-cradle, football, side-lying,
cradle hold.
When to feed your baby: Hunger and satiation cues, feeding patterns
and guidelines, how to feed a sleepy baby, cluster feedings.
Getting enough milk: Signs of milk transfer, growth spurts, feeding and
diaper log, stool and urine guidelines, weight gain, getting help.
Breast care: Normal breast fullness, hand expression and pumping,
engorgement, ni**le tenderness, mastitis and other warning signs.

Thanks so much to everyone who participated in the first virtual AMA book club! We discussed the social infrastructure that already exists in the neighborhood and also identified areas of growth. What would YOU like to see in the neighborhood?

Please help boost! Our neighbors could use our help. Our unhoused team has been out doing wellness checks and purchasing items to keep our neighbors safe while temps are low. Last year we were able to fundraise enough to get neighbors into hotel rooms on the worst nights. All donated funds go directly to meeting the needs of our neighbors.
