Warning long post ahead. Smoke on the Plains BBQ & Music Fest was a contest for the books. It was an amazing event. It was pretty hot but had a great time. It was the first time just Hannah went with us, Adam and Eli ran a 5k with their aunt and did well at it. Hannah cooked the kids que Friday night and got 3rd place with her bbq meatball subs. She seasoned them with her favorite rubs Weekend Bum BBQ perfect perfect and Double Barrel BBQ-OK brisket rub.
Wood Hook BBQ came in clutch Saturday morning with a gauge for my rib Drum. The one I bought didn't fit on it. I should have listened better to Nick Davis when he said the tel tru gauges need a bigger hole than traditional gauges. We ended up getting:
10th place pork ๐Ÿท
And 7th place brisket ๐Ÿฎ
Congratulations to Munny's Stove on his GC with a 712!!! And at SuperSwine BBQ for RGC!. We are excited the we finally got a brisket call this year, maybe some of Tony Sword luck rubbed off when he tagged my drum.
When we left the contest was when we found out what bbq family is all about. My truck decided to give up on us just outside Blackwell, OK. About 167 miles from home. Thank you Ryan Ashcroft, Travis Farthing, and Cheryl N Eddie Oates for stopping in and checking on us and keeping us a little company while we waited on help to arrive. You guys are awesome and I appreciate all of you willing to help out after such a long day and a long way from home. My cousin made the trip from yale to help out but after problems ended up having to get towed home. I want to thank Strickland Road Service for helping get us home. Your guy Tim was awesome. I don't know what you pay him but he needs a raise. That bed sure felt good when we laid down at 3 this morning.
It was a long trip, we are glad to be home, but proud to be able to call everyone family.

Woke up this morning at Smoke on the Plains BBQ & Music Fest in Derby Kansas to Tony from SuperSwine BBQ tagging my brisket Drum. Maybe it'll bring me some luck. Good luck to everyone competing today. May your names be called often and last.

Not only does O' Town love using Weekend Bum BBQ products, we love how personable Kevin Heese is. He sent each member of O Town individualized thank you cards congratulating us on our wins and letting Hannah, Adam, and Eli know their shirts were on the way! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to promote your great products! They loved the tattoos ๐Ÿ˜‰

O' Town littles Did awesome tonight at Lake Views & BBQ Wagoner, OK. Adam got 1st place with his chicken thighs๐Ÿ“( i wasnt able to get a picture), Hannah got 2nd place with her meatball subs ๐Ÿง†, and Eli, making his bbq debut, got 1st place with his bbq bacon sliders ๐Ÿ”. Their seasoning of choice was none other than Weekend Bum BBQ perfect perfect and Double Barrel BBQ-OK brisket rub. They are an awesome combination and pair well with eachother. They all three did awesome and dad and mom are really proud. Now it's up to us to keep the streak going. Good luck to all teams competing this weekend. May your names be called often and last.

Our first contest of the season is coming up in a few weeks. We are excited to get back to cooking KCBS. It is a small group now but always a good contest. I can't wait to see you guys out there.

02/02/2024

It's always a good day when this package shows up at my door. Thank you Weekend Bum BBQ for sponsoring us this year and for some great rubs. There was also a test bum that I had to take away from my wylde child before he ate it all straight out of the bottle.

Smokin' The Fort - BBQ & Chili Cook Off is always going to be special to us. It's where competition bbq started for us. It was nice this weekend being able to get back to our roots and we had a blast getting to see just how much people loved our food. Lil O' Town made some great wings on Friday in their kids que. Hannah seasoned hers with none other than Weekend Bum BBQ perfect perfect and tossed them in some parmason garlic sauce. Adam took a more traditional approach with his apple habanbro bbq wings. Sam and I were able to pull off Reserve Grand right behind Double Barrel BBQ-OK. It is always a close contest when Nick Davis shows up and being able to share the podium with him is always an honor. He is such a great help to us and we wouldn't be where we are without him. I want to recognize our sponers Kevin Heese weekend bum and Shot in the Dark Enterprise, LLC and of course a big Thank you to Reaction Wraps for paying our entry fee. Lastly I want to give a shout out to Mission Woodworking for these awesome custom made cutting boards they made for Grand and Reserve Champions.

We had a good time at Smoke on the River BBQ Club. It was a great location and the weather was wonderful. We felt we had a pretty good cook. We walked away with:
6th place in ribs ๐Ÿ–
And a 9th place brisket ๐Ÿฎ
Congratulations to Gettin' Basted on GC and Janky Leg BBQ for Reserve. Congratulations to our good friend Munny's Stove on your first place brisket and your well deserved 3rd overall call. We enjoyed having you as our neighbor this weekend and getting time to catch up and talk bbq with you. Nick Davis is a great mentor and with his help we are improving every comp. I feel we are turning in better and better food everytime. Last but not least Thank you to our sponsers Kevin Heese with weekend bum and Shot in the Dark Enterprise, LLC.

Que For a Cause BBQ Contest was a tough one for us. When you are going against 36 professional teams there is no room for error. Even though we cook the same meats hundreds of times sometimes the results aren't the same. Our chicken was chewy, Our pork and ribs were a little salty, And our brisket was a little over done. We knew going into turn in we weren't confident in our food. The highest place we got was a 19th in ribs. This will always be our favorite contest, because this is where we got our start in KCBS. Thank you Nick Davis for putting on a great contest. We had a lot of fun Friday night hanging out and talking with everyone and getting to beside Sam"s bbq grandpa Gary Williams Duncan Pool Q. Congratulations to everyone who heard their name called. We are going take a little time off bbq to get our kids settled into school and to practice hard. To be a pro you have to practice like a pro. We are going to practice until we cant get it wrong.

Goodmorning from Que For a Cause BBQ Contest in Tahlequah. Lil O' Town had a great cook last night. Hannah made meat donuts . Adam made his pork chop. There was some tough competition and they fell just a little short of placing. They were both happy with their turn ins and they both tasted very good. Mom and dad are really proud of them and they are really turning into some good bbq cooks. Now it's our turn. Good luck to everyone competing. May your name be called often and last.

Sam had a really good cook yesterday against 29 heavy hitting team at Miami - Oklahoma Route 66 Heritage Fest .The judges like 2 of the 4 meats we turned in.Sam was really excited and was very thankful for the support from our bbq family. She really liked when they sang her happy birthday while getting her award for ribs. She was able to pull off
7th in chicken ๐Ÿ”
And 12th in ribs ๐Ÿ–
Miami put on another great contest. It was extremely hot out on the pavement but Shanon and his team took really good care of us. We hate that we didn't get to see Shanon on day two but glad to hear that's he's doing better. Friday night is always our favorite part of a contest, when we get to hang out and catch up with all our friends. We will see everyone friday in Tahlequah at Que For a Cause BBQ Contest. On another note Sam is officially taking over ribs and chicken ๐Ÿ˜†.

Sam, the kids, and I had a lot of fun in Springfield at Ozarks BBQ Fest. We were happy with 3 of the four turn ins. There was some tough competition there. We have to practice a lot more and make some slight changes before our next comp. Friday night is always my favorite part of a competition. There are a lot of teams that we consider our bbq family, and any chance to hangout with them is always a good time. Ide like to thank Nick Davis for bringing me my brisket and inviting us to dinner on Friday night. Ide also like to thank our sponsers: Weekend Bum BBQ and Shot in the Dark Enterprise, LLC. We received 16th out of 30 great teams with:

With the warmer weather, I would like to remind everyone that the art of grilling is a ritual that has to be preformed a certain way or you'll end up loosing your eyebrows.
