There's something about taking a yellowed white to a clean bright white that makes doors look brand new!

"Paint and primer in one" paints are not meant for bare drywall or even patches. Eventually, it will fail, as is the case on this ceiling.

The bare ceiling is so smooth its almost slippery, which tells me the proper primer wasn't used. The layers of paint are coming off so easily on multiple areas of the ceiling, causing a day of repair being added on to this project.

Save yourself time and money in the long run by not skipping the priming step from the beginning to avpid this costly mistake.

I took last week off from painting to prep my home for my oldest baby's high school graduation and party, and we're back working in customer's homes this week!

First up is a pantry refresh.

Each shelf, trim piece, and floor was washed thoroughly to remove any crumbs, leftover food stains, and other normal wear from a normal home pantry.

Two coats of bright white paint were applied to all surfaces in a satin sheen to make every surface easily wipable, and the trim got two coats of Emerald Eurethane in White Dove.

It looks brand new!

I am so excited about how this house went from another brick ouse in a sea of brick houses to the showstopper that it is now!

The handmade shutters (made and stained by the homeowner) really add the extra depth and warmth that punctuates the finial look.

We used Romabio mineral paint, which becomes part of the brick and breathes like the brick does naturally, so this finish won't chip, peel, or bubble. It's just as maintenance-free as the brick is naturally, and will last for decades.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching cars slow down as they drove by to see what we were doing. This home is definitely the best looking home on the block!

Do you see the line in the middle of the photo from touching up where furniture once was? There's a rectangle that's just a bit lighter than the rest.

Sometimes, for simplicity of not moving a heavy item that won't be moved until the next time it's painted, or just to touch up a spot that's been patched, it's good enough for what's needed at the time. It really isn't a bad solution if the one who is living with it has asked for it or has done some touch ups on their own and dont mind the color difference.

When freshly painting rooms, we like to paint everything we can when we can.

The white walls looked "fine" until we brightened the space up with a fresh, bright white. (You can see the cut in lines at the bottom and around the outlet.) The whole space feels so much cleaner already!

Investing in my business today with an AI Master Training to make my business more efficient and customer friendly.

I like to think of these trainings not only as investing in my business, but also investing in my customers, because when we are better at Louisville Painting Company, it makes your experience better as well. ❤

A LOT was learned on this project.

No matter how much you clean the brick, it holds onto decades worth of ni****ne just like walls and ceiling do. Personally, I think brick may be slightly worse because it's a hard, porous sponge.

We started off with a custom lime wash finish and found that the ni****ne kept coming through. The only solution was to oil prime and pot coat with masonry paint.

Systems and processes were also able to be tuned with this project to ensure better success for future projects.

The final project is gorgeous, and adds depth and texture while brightening and modernizing this space. It even makes the mantle look updated! Added bonus 😃

Sometimes seminars or master classes can drag on and hours feel like days. That was definitely not the case yesterday!

Painters and business owners who provide various coatings to the Kentuckiana area- and some who traveled in from surrounding cities- had the privilege to learn from the one and only Nick Slavik. He's a master craftsman from Minesota who has built a $3.3m business, and shared how and what systems he had in place to get him there.

Even though the presentation was packed with information, the day flew by. I've got pages of notes to work from. Days like this make the loneliness of business ownership feel more supported, and I'm grateful for them!

What a GORGEOUS transformation!

This super creative homeowner has a fantastic eye for fashion and decorating. Her whole home has been custom decorated by herself, and she invited me to help with this super fun project.

She decided to take one of her spare rooms and transform it into her own custom walk-in closet. 😍 I applied the wallpaper mural to the ceiling and Cardinal Closets installed the completely custom closet system.

The homeowner added some personal touches and design details to round off this project, and now it's her favorite room in the whole house. I can definitely see why!

When it's Spring Break, you are finishing up a job before the rain comes (again) so this couple can sell their home, and there's no one to watch the littles, they come to work with momma and learn some life skills.

These boys have worked hard, spent all day outside with not much complaining, and have been paid in ice cream for their efforts (their idea! 😄)

My supervisor for today: Fat Cat.

Why does it cost so much to make your natural or stained woodwork white?

There is so much detailed time that is required to make your woodwork look custom-finished and bright white including lots of caulking.

🌟 Each seam has to be caulked to make the finished appearance look... well, seamless! Take a look at a door frame to see all the spaces that have to be caulked. There's 4 vertical seams on each side, plus the corners.

🌟 The woodwork must be sanded and wiped clean or deglossed to prepare for primer.

🌟 A coat of primer is applied to all the woodwork. Areas with extra details like door and window casings, and crown molding take more time to ensure each edge and corner is optimally covered.

🌟 At least 2 coats of finish paint is applied to produce a durable and solid finish.

Sometimes, the cost to finish the trim will be more than the cost to repaint the walls. I do receive questions about this, since the trim is "just a small area to paint."

Often, it's the smallest areas that require the most time and attention to detail to complete expertly.

What a season!

This wooden bench seat needed some weather protection, so we applied a semi-transparent stain after power washing.

If you've had a deck installed, wooden bistro light posts put in, or anything outside made of wood that you'd like to protect, it should definitely be stained. Even if the wood is already great from weathering, it can be power washed and sealed to protect the rest of it's life- and to protect your investment on it.

So happy with how this turned out!

Tonight, I had the pleasure to be invited to a pig roast to celebrate the contractors who partner with Krebs Kontracting. What a fantastic company to align with! We share many of the same values and are committed to delivering the highest level finishes.
