Finishing a book or series I’ve fallen in love with is such a bittersweet experience that's always been difficult for me to describe to people. Part of me is happy with a satisfying ending, glad that the story and events have come to a conclusion for all of the characters (as well as freeing me up to read something else). Part of me, however, always wants the series to go on forever, unending so that I can follow my favorites for as long as I want to. I know their story is closed, but even then I always find myself wishing it was just a little longer.

Honestly, I’ve been reading ebooks for a really long time now. The biggest reason, at first, was just that my parents thought it was too expensive to buy me physical books as fast as I read them, and ebooks were a lot cheaper. Now that I buy books for myself, I still buy ebooks a lot of the time since they’re easier to keep on me. Anywhere I have my phone, I have a bunch of books I can read or re-read. It's great whenever I’m bored on a bus or plane, or waiting for a Doctor’s appointment or something. If you like ebooks, you should check out my book Leviathans! Diving into a good book is an incredible experience, and, sometimes, I really do think that I’d prefer nothing more than a mountain cottage, some snow, a fireplace, and a well-stocked bookshelf.

It feels obvious, and that’s because it is. Like with anything else, the more you write the better you’ll get at it. Of course, you’ll only improve if you think about your own writing critically. Identify the parts that you don’t like, or that you feel you could do better and write with the goal of always improving. If you do, I promise you everyone will notice!

Certainly not a controversial choice. Brandon Sanderson is easily one of my favorite authors. The way that he writes characters such that they really feel like people, like they’re alive and breathing, is exceptional. They are flawed, they have motivations, they love, they hate, they grow and change. Following along with the stories set in the Cosmere has helped me improve my character writing skills well beyond what they were previously.

The reason I suggest reviewing your work after taking some time away from it is that you give yourself time to “forget” exactly what you meant when you wrote. You might think this is a bad idea, but it means two important things. First: It’ll help you catch small mistakes that your eyes were glazing over while you wrote. Second: It means that your interpretation will be closer to that of a reader, as opposed to the other

After another few minutes, the trainers called an end to the sparring sessions and the group stood in front of Nova. “You three” she said, pointing at each of them. “I’ll fight each of you in turn. We’ll see how you fare” Sylvia explained, gesturing at the older man “we’ll start with you”. Most of the incarnates smirked. Sylvia bit back a harsh smile. It was a common misconception among Incarnates that hadn’t yet paired with spellbinders that the spellcasters were weak and served to support them exclusively. They were about to have their point of view corrected. Sylvia turned and stepped some distance away from the group.

It’s easy to get caught in the trap of trying to force your characters to take actions to advance your plot. If you do that though their decisions can feel very unnatural, which makes your characters much less believable and your story less interesting. In the long run, this can lead to you writing yourself into a corner and needing to redo everything anyway, so its better to let things develop naturally according to your character’s motivations and goals.

Hey everyone! I’m Eoneth and I’ve been telling stories for as long as I can remember. Inspired by my teacher, I started putting them down on paper when I was 8 and I’ve never stopped. Since then, I’ve written everything from science fiction to fantasy to horror.

Leviathans, my most recent novel, is a technomagical fantasy inspired by the feeling of adventure I’d get when exploring a new world. Whether through books, or video games, or movies, the sense of discovery and excitement of experiencing an unknown place has always captivated me. Leviathans is a story about adventure, and discovery, and secrets, and yes… delving into the ruins of an ancient civilization.

Leviathans. Stories have been told about the mythical creatures for generations. Some insist they exist to preserve the world. Others say they will rise to destroy it. Most agree they don’t exist. Recruited from a young age to be a techno-mage, a member of the specialized guilds that repair and maintain all magic-driven technology, Rayne was ostracized for her distant and distracted nature. Her brilliance, however drew her under the wing of one of the Master Techno-mages.

Years later, while working on one of the colossal towers that fed the city below with magic, Rayne’s eyes find one of the mythical Leviathans. Chased out of the City of her birth for reasons she doesn’t understand, while carrying a mysterious gem given to her by the that Master she trusts, Rayne and her best friend Lucy escape to the skies in an airship. Now free to explore the world and discover its secrets, Rayne and Lucy seek to solve the riddles left in the wake of a creature that can’t exist.
